NBA Predictions: Predicting Who Will Lead in Every Major Statistical Category
The NBA is full of players who can produce at high levels of scoring, rebounding, passing, etc, but there are certain players who excel better than others, and those players are always the ones mentioned in the talks of MVP.
There are many stats that the common person looks at when checking to see whether or not a player is good, but there are the stats that do not stand out, and then there are the ones that do. These stats include scoring, rebounding, assists, steals and blocks.
This slideshow will showcase who I predict will lead in all of these categories.
Enjoy!
Points: LeBron James
1 of 5This is the main stat that EVERYONE looks at. This is a stat that is almost never overlooked and is always checked to see whether or not a player is good or not.
Despite all the criticism LeBron faces, he is and will continue to be the best player in the current NBA. He has a skill set and athleticism that has rarely been seen in the NBA. He uses this to his advantage, which has allowed him to put up continuous 26+ PPG seasons in the NBA.
He has a wide array of slashing moves that get him to the basket, where the points come the easiest, but as he gets farther away from the basket, LeBron has trouble getting the ball in the hoop.
Despite these troubles, it is clear that LeBron is one of the hardest working athletes in all of sports, and has worked on his jumper, as well as his post game.
As a member of the Miami Heat, where there were two very good scoring options in Bosh and Wade, LeBron flourished, averaging 26.7 PPG.
With better ways of scoring, LeBron can take away the scoring title from current title holder Kevin Durant, but it will be a very close battle.
Rebounds: Dwight Howard
2 of 5Most of you may be thinking that someone like Kevin Love would be here, but Minnesota and Kevin Love fans should face it—their star player had Darko Milicic as his front court partner, someone who is not known for rebounding, thus giving Love most of the rebounds.
Dwight Howard has been someone who has averaged 10+ RPG for his entire career, and his numbers just keep going higher. Howard is someone who always seems to hustle for loose balls and rebounds, meaning he can grab them easily, along with the fact that he is seven feet tall.
Sure Dwight does not have a talented front court beside him, but the main fact that Dwight hustles after rebounds like a dog in the mood to play fetch, Dwight will outrebound anyone who is put beside him, even if it was Kevin Love
Before the end of the 2010-2011 season, Dwight had led the league in rebounding for three straight seasons, which shows Howard can easily reach this feat once again, and even with all the Lakers trade rumors surrounding Dwight, it will not lead him to break down and not play like his old self.
Assists: Deron Williams
3 of 5Many of you were either thinking Chris Paul, Rajon Rondo or the previous season's assists leader, Steve Nash. Many people completely underrate Deron Williams. Williams is a top notch point guard and is the best currently in the NBA.
Rajon Rondo and Steve Nash both have players who are aging around them and reaching the twilights of their careers. If Chris Paul is to stay on the Hornets, then he also has a team that is depleting slowly, as David West is set to enter free agency, and other than Trevor Ariza and Emeka Okafor, no one else could be heavily relied on.
This leads to Deron Williams, as he is on one of the youngest teams in the NBA with the New Jersey Nets. On Utah, Williams was averaging only 9.7 assists per game, but when he was traded to the Nets, he was able to raise the season average to 10.3, while averaging 12.8 assists per game as a Net.
As Williams also has all the talks about him leaving New Jersey and joining a contender, pressure will not fall on Deron, and he will be able to regain his former self where he averaged close to 11 assists per game.
Steals: John Wall
4 of 5This is a very bold prediction, considering John Wall was ranked seventh among all players in steals, but John Wall has the ability to rack up more steals than he did in his rookie season (1.8 SPG).
Averaging 1.8 steals per game in your rookie season is a remarkable feat, and Wall's rookie season was very underrated with the play of Blake Griffin. In reality, John Wall had an amazing rookie season overall, and in a couple of years, will probably be a top-five player in the NBA.
With more experience under his belt, and with a great work ethic, John Wall will be able to score more points, pile up the assists, grab more rebounds and, last but not least, get steals due to the fact that he is wiser than before.
Wall has a bright future ahead of him.
Blocks: JaVale McGee
5 of 5JaVale McGee is one of the most athletic big men in the NBA today, and many of us noticed that after the wonderful show he put on during the dunk contest.
Due to his athleticism, McGee is able to block shots with ease, and it showed with his 2.44 blocks per game average, and at the same time, averaging an amazing 4.22 blocks per 48 minutes, only behind Serge Ibaka and Yao Ming.
McGee was ranked second last season in blocks, only behind Andrew Bogut of the Bucks, by 0.14 blocks per game. The amazing thing about this is that McGee played about seven minutes less than Bogut and was still able to rack up a good amount of blocks.
Many were probably thinking that Dwight Howard, Andrew Bogut or Serge Ibaka would be in this position, but in reality, McGee has been getting better in every aspect of his game ever since joining the league in 2008.
