Urban Meyer to Ohio State: Why Buckeyes QB Braxton Miller Is the Biggest Winner
Coaches are all good at something. Some know how to run a defense better than others or some are more offensive minded. Then you have some like Urban Meyer who are great at getting the best out of their players by using their strengths the right way.
The rumors are as strong as ever that Meyer has in fact became the new head coach for the Ohio State Buckeyes. If this is true, quarterback Braxton Miller should be doing back-flips because his career is about to get a whole lot better.
Meyer is an offensive genius and uses his weapons better than anybody. He doesn't need a quarterback that can pass very well. Just give him an athlete at the quarterback position and he will lead that team to the promised land in no time.
Alex Smith at Utah had over 6,000 total yards and 62 total touchdowns during two seasons under Meyer. He helped lead the Utes to two bowl victories including a BCS bowl and was the first overall pick in the 2005 NFL draft.
Tim Tebow isn't the greatest passer in the world as we all see but he still had over 12,000 yards and 145 total touchdowns. He also won a Heisman trophy and two BCS National Championships.
Meyer doesn't need an Andrew Luck or any other type of traditional quarterback to succeed in his spread offense. He just needs an athlete and that's what Braxton Miller is.
Miller is known for his scrambling ability as he's rushed for over 100 yards in three of the last four games. The problem is that offensive coordinator Jim Bollman doesn't know how to get the most out of his athletic quarterback.
Meyer will put Miller in his spread offense that includes a bunch of option plays and misdirections that not only keep the defense honest but make Miller the most effective. The stats will get better, the Buckeyes points will increase and the wins will add up.
That 50 percent completion percentage will also get better as the passing game will become a lot easier for Miller as the defense will have to respect the run a lot more. Making the receivers job a lot easier to get open.
Tim Tebow had a 66 percent completion percentage for his career at Florida for a reason. You couldn't even imagine him having a completion percentage that high in one game as a Denver Bronco.
There are a lot of winners with Urban Meyer going to Ohio State but none will be as big as Braxton Miller.
