WWE: A Tribute to John Morrison, Subject of Unfair Scruntiny in the IWC

Ryan FryeDec 3, 2011

In the seven years that John Morrison graced the WWE ring, he showed us why we love wrestling. With his high-flying prowess, light-hearted fun and jaw-dropping "it" factor, Morrison gave us all moments we will forever cherish.

Today, after a firestorm of heated remarks towards the Prince of Parkour, I am here to highlight the good side of this man who gave his body, time and life for the sole purpose of entertaining us.

Promising Beginnings

A young man from Los Angeles, California, was the co-winner of Tough Enough III. In the weeks that followed, John Hennigan debuted as Eric Bischoff's personal assistant, continuously changing ring names until Johnny Nitro stuck.

Nitro was soon repackaged and placed in the MNM stable with Melina (his eventual downfall) and Joey Mercury.

The team of Morrison and Mercury were quickly crowned tag-team champions, with Nitro also winning the Intercontinental Championship soon after.

When Mercury was released by the WWE, Nitro replaced Chris Benoit at Vengeance: Night of Champions, beating CM Punk for the ECW Championship.

Nitro soon blossomed into John Morrison and stole numerous pay-per-view events alongside CM Punk.

Morrison showcased the best microphone work of his career as an arrogant rock star, even claiming he was so intellectually gifted that he skipped third grade.

Morrison and The Miz started a bromance after they double-teamed a defenseless CM Punk, in a pairing of misfits that happened to become the best tag team of their era.

After the split at the WWE Draft, Morrison turned face and was in the main-event scene of SmackDown during the summer of 2009. He had great matches with the likes of Edge, Chris Jericho, CM Punk, Jack Swagger and Rey Mysterio.

This is where I will stop, as it is really where Morrison went downhill, thanks in part to being drafted to Raw alongside then-on-screen buddy R-Truth and Edge.

The MoJo of JoMo

John Morrison stepped through the curtain to his slow-motion entrance every week. As he entered with a smile on his face, you just couldn't help to notice the oozing charisma of the Shaman of Sexy.

The ladies loved his looks, the kids adored his sweetness and the men were addicted to his in-ring style.

He encouraged his fans so much that they began a campaign to "Save John Morrison" on Twitter. One fan even opened a website just for supporters to post thank-you letters, which John himself acknowledged Sunday night.

On the microphone, often considered his place of struggles, Morrison conveyed a goofy image. He was a laid-back guy from LA looking to reach his goals.

Miz, in particular, would bring out Morrison's humorous side, as the two always had the best work of their careers together.

And in my opinion, the struggles of the pipebomb were greatly exaggerated, as most of Morrison's promos either were funny or had a lasting impact on his character.

In the ring, John Morrison told a story. His fluid and graceful moves are what made many love him.

For those that suggest he is a spot monkey, watch his matches before the parkour gimmick came about.

Defending John Morrison

After giving Trish Stratus the alleged cold shoulder leading up to WrestleMania 27,  John Morrison's de-push began.

Many believe he did this with on-again, off-again girlfriend Melina in his ear, and that Melina was jealous that Stratus took her spot.

Stratus, not above backstage politics in her own WWE career, teamed with Morrison and Jersey Shore star Snooki, reportedly angering all divas that two women walked in and stole their WrestleMania spots.

Ala CM Punk being angered by The Rock main eventing WrestleMania 28, these divas had a right to be angry.

So why can't John Morrison stick up for those wronged divas, essentially the same thing CM Punk has been doing since learning of Rocky's status?

This my, friends, is a double standard.

A Thank You to John Morrison

One thing we often forget as fans is how much these wrestlers do in order to pursue their dream.

John Morrison, like him or loathe him, is no different.

Regardless if he decides to return the the WWE, go to TNA or leave wrestling altogether, we owe him a thank you for the countless hours of entertainment he has given us.

In closing, I would like to say thank you, John Morrison: Your future endeavors look as bright as ever.
