BCS Rankings: The 5 Hottest Teams Right Now
The regular season is coming to an end with just one weekend left in college football. Conference champions will soon be playing in the BCS, and there are several teams who will be playing on New Year's Day (Jan. 2).
Whether it is the five BCS bowls or the top notch non-BCS bowls, there are many teams that are fighting for those bids.
So which teams have officially caught fire or have never cooled off yet this season?
Michigan Wolverines
1 of 6Denard Robinson and the Michigan Wolverines have been quite the story this season. They sneaked by the Buckeyes to knock off their rivals for the first time in seven years, but they are well on their way to a BCS Bowl.
Michigan is the winningest program of all time, and they travel as well as any team out there. The Wolverines should be well on their way to the Sugar Bowl with the Fiesta Bowl likely to select Stanford in the first pick of the BCS selection.
Brady Hoke has to be up there for Coach of the Year honors since many "experts" did not expect a BCS Bowl for the Wolverines.
Houston Cougars
2 of 6Is there a hotter team out there offensively than the Cougars of Houston?
Houston needs just 85 more points to break Oklahoma's all-time record for most points in FBS history, and with the way they are playing, they may accomplish such an impossible task.
Case Keenum could be on his way towards NYC with a Heisman invite, but they still must take care of business in the Conference USA Championship for their BCS dreams to come true.
Southern Miss is a physical defense that could disrupt and ruin the Cougars' BCS chances, but Case Keenum has a bevy of options that can go yard on any play.
Wisconsin Badgers
3 of 6Averaging 44.2 points per game during their four-game winning streak has been great, but Montee Ball has been single handily destroying the Big Ten.
He now has 34 total touchdowns and needs just five touchdowns to tie Barry Sanders' all-time record (39) for most total touchdowns in a season ('88-'89).
More importantly, Wisconsin is a victory away from winning the Big Ten Championship over Michigan State, which, of course, would be rewarded with a trip to Pasadena in consecutive seasons.
Virginia Tech Hokies
4 of 6The Hokies clinched a berth in the ACC Championship after winning the past seven games. They throttled Virginia 38-0 thanks to Logan Thomas and David Wilson.
The two have the most dynamic duo down the stretch of the ACC, but it is the defense that is playing lights out.
Virginia Tech is 12th in total defense allowing only 302 yards per game, and they rank ninth against the run allowing a pedestrian 98 yards per game.
They will be fairly decent sized favorites over Clemson despite getting trounced at home by them back on Oct. 1.
Georgia Bulldogs
5 of 6Georgia's Mark Richt was on the hot seat after losing the first two games of the season. There was no doubting that the first two games were critical since it knocked them out of the BCS race right out of the gates, and most did not think they stood a chance after losing at home to South Carolina.
Yet, here we are one week away from the SEC Championship and the Bulldogs will be playing in their own backyard against the top ranked Bayou Bengals.
LSU is as ferocious a team as we have seen in years, but Georgia has been relentless in their own right.
LSU Tigers
6 of 6Who in the world is hotter than LSU?
The Tigers rank fourth in rushing defense, sixth in passing defense, third in pass efficiency, second in scoring defense and second in total defense.
They are loaded up front with NFL players coming in-and-out of the game every few plays to keep everybody fresh.
The secondary is about as opportunistic as you can get with two All-American playmakers in Tyrann Mathieu and Mo Claiborne.
Georgia should give the Tigers everything they can handle, but Jordan Jefferson has some legit talent and is playing out of his mind right now.
