Detroit Lions Keep Their Chances of Making History Alive (Humor)

Ari HoringDec 21, 2008

After a couple of close calls the past two weeks against the Vikings and Colts, the Lions were determined this Sunday not to blow there chances of making history this week losing 41-7 to the New Orleans Saints.

Head Coach Rod Marinelli definitely had his troops prepared for this one as the Lions executed their game plan precisely. The two keys to the game were the play of quarterback Dan Orlovsky and the Lion’s defense.

Quarterback Dan Orlovsky did more than what the team needed from him going 10 for 23 for 125 yards and two interceptions, while the defense improved their performance from last week allowing 532 yard to the Saints offense.

Orlovsky said he was very pleased with the performance on Sunday.

“It took all 53 guys out there working together as a team to make this possible", said Orlovsky. "Our team has been practicing hard all week and it definitely payed off."

On the other side of the ball, former Lions quarterback Joey Harrington and current back-up for the Saints, seemed disappointed in his news conference after the game that he was never quite able to make history with the Lions.

“We were so close in my four years with the Lions, but we always seemed to lay an egg in a couple games and blow our chances," said Harrington. "I’m happy that the Lions fans finally have the opportunity to get to see something like this after so many years; even though sadly I won't be a part of it."

Although the Lions are only one game away, they know that the hardest part of completing their goal will be finishing what they started in the beginning of the season.

“We don’t want to end up doing what the Patriots did last year, and blow our chances in our last game,” said Lions WR Calvin Johnson. "We have to be even more focused than we have been the entire season to prevent that from happening."

Just like the Patriots played a familiar foe in their last game of the season last year, the Lions will be playing the Packers who they posted their highest scoring game against in their 43-25 loss earlier this season.

Even though the chances are very high that the Lions will not falter against the Packers, they aren’t taking this game lightly.

“Last time we played them (the Packers)  we didn’t really do what he were supposed to do on offense," said Lions RB Kevin Smith. "If we want our names written in the record book, we are going to have to do better than allow ourselves to score 25 points."

Packers receiver Greg Jennings has already stirred up drama by guaranteeing a loss in his post-game news conference on Sunday.

"Everybody thinks theyr'e just going to come in to our house and leave with their names in the history books," said Jennings. "But the truth is that there better than there given credit for and I guarantee you the Lions won't be coming out of Lambeau with a loss this Sunday."

When asked about what Jennings said, Kevin Smith said "I'm glad Jennings decided to run his mouth, because it's just gonna fuel us even more and were just going to use his words as extra motivation this Sunday."

I don't know if the Lions need any more motivation to lose this weekend as all of America will be watching them as nobody has ever had the opportunity accomplish what the Lions can this upcoming Sunday in the 16 game era.
