Each NBA Team Described as a Beatles Song

Collin KottkeNov 26, 2011

The NBA looks like it’ll be back in action on Christmas Day, but after a long lock-out how do you describe each team in the association? With a Beatles song that’s how. Take a trip down memory lane with hits, deep cuts, and some basketball stuff along the way. What song describes The Heatles or your team or your team’s hated rival? Make sure to check the links on the page so you can jam out to each team's respective Beatles tune.

Boston Celtics – I’m So Tired

1 of 31

Don’t look now Boston fans, but the Celtics are getting up there in age and they have to be tired. Maybe a shorter season will be a blessing for the Celtics.

New Jersey Nets – She’s Leaving Home

2 of 31

This upcoming season is the Nets last one in New Jersey before leaving for Brooklyn and the brand-spanking new Barclays Center. Jay-Z may have 99 problems, but New Jersey ain’t one.

New York Knicks – I Saw Her Standing There

3 of 31

John Lennon’s last song sung in concert was at Madison Square Garden with Elton John and it was I Saw Her Standing There, which was originally sung by Paul McCartney but that’s beyond the point. Standing there is exactly what the Knicks are doing on the defensive end.

Philadelphia 76ers – Get Back

4 of 31

A couple of years ago the Sixers changed their logo back to what it once was, getting their look back to the glory days of the Julius Erving era. Now they look to get back to the playoffs again.

Toronto Raptors – Oh! Darling

5 of 31

Oh! Darling, if you leave me / I'll never make it alone /Believe me when I beg you / Don't ever leave me alone / When you told me you didn't need me anymore / Well you know I nearly broke down and cried / When you told me you didn't need me anymore / Well you know I nearly fell down and died

This is exactly what the Raptors must feel like after the departure of Chris Bosh. At least Dwane Casey is the new head coach, after being very successful with the Timberwolves… yikes.

Chicago Bulls – Come Together

6 of 31

The pieces of a Chicago Bulls championship team are coming together with the main cog being MVP Derrick Rose. Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer will try to help push this team to the Promised Land.

Cleveland Cavilers – The Long and Winding Road

7 of 31

Lebron James left as we are all well aware and now the Cavs must find a way to get back to relevancy. It may take a while to get back to relevancy’s door but Dan Gilbert says it’ll be before LeBron and the Heat win a title. Thank God for Mark Cuban.

Detroit Pistons – Rock And Roll Music

8 of 31

Rock and Roll Music was originally written and recorded by Chuck Berry, but many other famous artists have done a cover of it including the likes of REO Speedwagon, The Beach Boys, and of course The Beatles. The song talks about how he’d rather have good ‘ol rock and roll than anything and there’s nothing more Detroit than that. Pistons fans wish for the good ‘ol days of the Pistons too.

Indiana Pacers – It Won’t Be Long

9 of 31

Last year the Pacers made the playoffs and gave the NBA best Chicago Bulls all that they could handle by keeping all games within five points except for Game 5. Indiana’s young and getting better, it won’t be long until the Pacers are one of the best teams in the NBA.

Milwaukee Bucks – I Need You

10 of 31

Andrew Bogut keeps getting hurt. He only played 65 games last year when the Bucks barely missed the playoffs. If the Bucks want to get back to the playoffs they need Bogut to stay healthy.

Atlanta Hawks – I Don’t Want To Spoil the Party

11 of 31

The Hawks have had a good problem; they always make the playoffs but leave the party a little too soon for their liking. The past three years the Hawks have lost out in the second round of the playoffs, which is a frustrating problem to have.

Charlotte Bobcats – Money (That’s What I Want)

12 of 31

All that anyone knows about the Bobcats is that they are owned by Michael Jordan. He’s got money, he’s got shoes, he’s got rings, but does he have a winning basketball team? Probably not.

Miami Heat – Revolution

13 of 31

Love them or hate them; Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade, and LeBron James started a revolution themselves. They started the revolutions of super-teams which will soon be all over the place like New York with Amar’e Stoudemire and Carmello Anthony and Los Angeles with Kobe Bryant and crew when Dwight Howard and Chris Paul hit the free agent market.

Who knows maybe the Heat will make a revolution by winning not five, not six, not seven… some championships.

Orlando Magic – I Need You

14 of 31

The Magic realize they need Dwight Howard to be a good team. They realize that time is ticking on how long he may be a member of the Magic. What Peyton Manning is to the Indianapolis Colts, Dwight Howard might just be to the Orlando Magic.

Washington Wizards – Yesterday

15 of 31

Yesterday was the first Beatle track that any member recorded by their lonesome without the other three, this move started to crack the mold of The Beatles. When Gilbert Arenas brought guns into the locker room that move split up the Wizards band and they all went solo. Now a couple years late a new solo act is climbing the charts: John Wall.

Golden State Warriors – You Won’t See Me

16 of 31

The Warriors are the best team you won’t see every night on SportsCenter. A core of Monta Ellis, Stephen Curry, and David Lee bids well for a good season for the Warriors. Like the Pacers it won’t be long until the Warriors are playoff favorites.

Los Angeles Clippers – Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band

17 of 31

Blake Griffin is Sgt. Pepper and the rest of the Clippers are the Lonely Hearts Club Band. Just like the album everyone will love it, but not be sure why except for their favorite song or in the Clippers case their favorite player Blake Griffin.

Los Angeles Lakers – When I’m Sixty-Four

18 of 31

Kobe Bryant is getting up there in age and he may still be the best player in the league, but how many rings will Kobe be polishing on his front porch when he’s sixty-four. He has a couple more shots to do it, but time is ticking for Kobe and the Lakers.

Phoenix Suns – Helter Skelter

19 of 31

I personally blame Shaq. Not too long ago the Suns were one of the premier teams in the league, now they are in complete disarray. It can all be traced back to the Shaquille O’Neal acquisition when they had to change their way of play, but they still have some pieces with the likes of Steve Nash and Grant Hill. Who knows how long Nash will still be in Phoenix though.

Sacramento Kings – Sun King

20 of 31

If Dwight Howard is Peyton Manning, Jimmer Fredette is Tim Tebow. Overlook that Fredette is a Mormon and just look at the insane popularity of the two; it is very comparable. They both may not be the best, but they are king and you’ll watch one Kings game this year just to see Jimmer.

Dallas Mavericks – Here, There And Everywhere

21 of 31

The Beatles didn’t have too many “skipping gallantly through a meadow full of flowers” songs, so this one is the closest. They won the NBA Championship last year and their just happy that it’s with them, they don’t mind Dirk either.

Houston Rockets – Back In the USSR

22 of 31

When I think of rockets or any flying projectile I personally think of Soviet Russia. The Rockets just wish to go back to the days of Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady playoff teams, but now they have a rebuilding team with Kevin McHale as head coach. The Wolves are still recovering from a McHale rebuilding project.

Memphis Grizzlies – What You’re Doing

23 of 31

Look what you're doing / I'm feeling blue and lonely / Would it be too much to ask of you / What you're doing to me? / You got me running / and there's no fun in it / Why should it be so much to ask of you / What you're doing to me?

This is exactly what the Spurs were saying to the Grizzlies last year when they pulled the eight over one upset in the first round of the playoffs. Also it’s a personal sentiment for Zach Randolph who looked like a total dud in Portland is now an all-star in Memphis.

New Orleans Hornets – Can’t Buy Me Love

24 of 31

The Hornets stole a couple games from the Lakers in the first round of the playoffs last year; they’ll look to make the playoffs again this year while they still have Chris Paul. It does look Paul will hop ship when he becomes a free agent and there may not be enough money collectively in the state of Louisiana to keep him there.

San Antonio Spurs – Something

25 of 31

There is just something about the Spurs that makes them a good team year in and year out. It’s probably Tim Duncan, who is the most underrated player in the NBA today. Not a lot of media attention gets put on the Spurs until they lost out to the Grizzlies in the first round, but don’t worry the Spurs will be back in the playoffs once again.

Denver Nuggets – I’m Happy Just To Dance With You

26 of 31

When the Nuggets sent both Chauncey Billups and Carmelo Anthony to the Knicks everyone thought that the Nuggets would turn terrible, but to everyone’s surprise they didn’t. Denver had a very respectable year after the departure of their stars.

Minnesota Timberwolves – Help!

27 of 31

The Wolves have been terrible ever since Kevin Garnett was shipped off to Boston. Owner Glen Taylor must have yelled out the word Help pre-lockout and many people heard him. Derrick Williams in now a member of the Wolves, Rick Adelman signed on to be the head coach, and Ricky Rubio finally decided to show up from Spain. The Wolves needed somebody and they got three guys plus Ringo, whom in the Wolves case would be Darko.

Oklahoma City Thunder – Here Comes The Sun

28 of 31

This team is going to be scary good. The 1-2 punch of Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant is a force to be reckoned with and the NBA will soon find that out. In the next 10 years the Bulls and Thunder could be the teams fighting for NBA supremacy.

Portland Trail Blazers – Revolution 9

29 of 31

I don’t know what to make of the Blazers; they look good on paper, but that doesn’t always translate to the play on the court. Do you remember Greg Oden? Nope? Me neither, only some tattoo artist in Columbus, Ohio does. What happen to Brandon Roy? So many questions, so little amount of answers just like Revolution 9.

Utah Jazz – Ticket To Ride

30 of 31

Last year the Jazz started with Jerry Sloan as head coach and Deron Williams as the star point guard. Fast-forward to mid- way through last year neither of them called Utah home anymore. The two got in a shouting match so Sloan resigned and Williams was given a ticket to New Jersey.

The End

31 of 31

Ringo had one drum solo in his whole time as the Beatles drummer, now every song has a drum solo in it. Ringo’s one winning moment in 10 years as a member of The Beatles is still one more than the Timberwolves have had in franchise history.
