BCS Rankings 2011: 5 BCS Top 25 Teams Peaking at the Right Time
And then there was just one—as in weeks remaining in the season. Many teams are done until bowl season, but let us not forget that championship week is coming up.
The ACC, Big Ten, Pac-12, MAC, C-USA and SEC still have vital games to be played in which the outcomes will determine bowl destinations for several teams as many BCS bowls have yet to be determined.
So, which five are peaking at the right time?
Virginia Tech Hokies
1 of 5The Hokies were questioned by many "experts," including Kirk Herbstreit, as to whether or not they were deserving of being ranked in the Top Five.
I wonder if Frank Beamer used any of that for motivation this weekend in their ACC Coastal Division-clinching victory over the Wahoos?
They spanked Virginia 38-0 and the duo of David Wilson and Logan Thomas was unstoppable. Kudos to a defense that has been dominating the ACC for the past month.
While Virginia Tech will likely be playing in the Orange Bowl instead of the BCS National Championship, this Hokies team has had eight straight 10-win seasons.
Georgia Bulldogs
2 of 5The SEC East champions are playing inspired football right now and cannot wait until they get the top-ranked Bayou Bengals in the Atlanta Georgia Dome.
They will likely be double-digit underdogs, but this team is loaded with a bevy of talent. The defense will be suited well against the LSU offense since the Bulldogs have not had issues stopping the run when need be, but their speed is sick at every position on the field.
Aaron Murray has been playing great ball since September and his receivers are improving by the game. Chris Conley, Aron White, Orson Charles, Tavares King and Malcolm Mitchell are just a few of the star performers.
Isiah Crowell and Richard Samuel IV have been even needed the last few weeks, and we can expect both of them to be in action in a game that will determine their BCS fate (Crowell will be good to go, monitor Samuel).
Wisconsin Badgers
3 of 5The Badgers are hanging half a hundred seemingly every weekend with Montee Ball going bonkers. He now has 34 touchdowns on the season after finding paydirt four more times against Penn State.
Wisconsin smoked Penn State in Camp Randall 45-7, which gave them the Big Ten Leaders Division crown. They will now head to Lucas Oil Stadium in a rematch against the Michigan State Spartans.
The winner will head to Pasadena and play in the grand daddy of them all. However, with the way this offense has been clicking, not even the Sparty defense will do enough to slow them down.
Michigan State Spartans
4 of 5The Spartans have now won four in a row and even clinched their berth in the Big Ten championship two weeks ago.
Kirk Cousins has been taking care of the ball and has found BJ Cunningham and Keshawn Martin. Cunningham hauled in six passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns.
The story for this team has been a dominating defense, though, they gave up 370 yards to Northwestern. Jerel Worthy leads the defensive line, but give props to the entire defense because they have been getting the job done.
They will be tested against the Badgers and they will certainly use the underdog role to their advantage. Can they pull it off?
LSU Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide
5 of 5I try to show no favoritism towards one school over another if they are pretty much dead even. Sure, LSU beat Alabama fair and square in their very own building, but both have been whooping on every team in sight.
They are destined to face off in a rematch for the BCS National Championship to decide who really is the best team on the planet.
