Urban Meyer: Leading Buckeyes Back to BCS Glory Will Not Be an Easy Challenge
If Urban Meyer takes over as head coach of Ohio State football next season, it will not be an easy road back to BCS glory for the former Florida Gators coach.
Meyer is an amazing recruiter but convincing top high school athletes to come to Columbus when the football program has been in the news for the wrong reasons more than the school would like recently will be harder than people think.
The Buckeyes are not a good football team right now and have played poorly in a Big Ten conference with no dominant teams this season.
Every top team in each of the conference's division is very beatable, but Ohio State is only 6-6.
One of Meyer's best strengths is that he's able to develop players into NFL-caliber talents. He helped current NFL pros such as Tim Tebow, Joe Haden and Mike and Maurkice Pouncey improve to the point where they could excel at the professional level.
Without recruiting the current classes at Ohio State, Meyer won't have his type of players in Columbus right away.
Meyer likes certain players for his spread offense that he used at Florida with great success. Implementing his offense and style of play to the Buckeyes will take time, no matter how well his players could adapt in the first few weeks of the season.
The Ohio State passing game is ranked 118th in the nation this season and averages just 114 yards per game.
Meyer must improve this aspect of the Buckeyes offense, if they are to become a BCS bowl contender again.
Urban Meyer is the perfect fit in Columbus, but it will take time for him to build the Buckeyes into a national power again. Given the right amount of time, he will accomplish the fan's expectations.
