Wyoming vs. Boise State Score: Broncos Will Assert BCS Dominance Against Cowboys
Despite a loss to the TCU Horned Frogs a couple weeks ago, the No. 7 Boise State Broncos are still very much in the hunt for a BCS bowl berth. The Broncos must first get through the underrated Wyoming Cowboys, but a second-half blowout is in the cards.
At halftime the score was just 13-7 in favor of Boise State, but the Broncos actually played pretty sloppy to start the game, so they should feel lucky to have the lead.
Wyoming has managed to make quarterback Kellen Moore look human as they intercepted him for a touchdown and have held him to just 10-of-19 passing.
The Cowboys have performed admirably this season with a 7-3 overall mark and a 4-1 record in the Mountain West Conference, but they can't exactly hang their hat on either side of the ball. The same can't be said for the Broncos as they sport a dominant offense and a very solid defense to boot.
Boise State lost a conference game on its home field for the first time in years a couple weeks back, but I don't expect the trend to continue against Wyoming.
It has to hurt the Broncos knowing that they would be firmly in the National Championship hunt if not for losing to the Horned Frogs, but they still need to take care of business.
Moore is one of the winningest quarterbacks in college football history, and he will surely want to go out on top with a BCS bowl game. The loss to TCU may ultimately cost the Broncos, but a loss to Wyoming would most certainly remove all doubt.
As much as the Broncos rely on Moore, the key to victory will likely be defense. Boise State has held the Cowboys to barely three yards per carry during the game, and quarterback Brett Smith has been forced to be incredibly conservative with check-down passes.
The Broncos will also need to continue running the ball effectively with Doug Martin, who totaled 59 yards and a score in a consistent first half. This season may not ultimately go the way the Broncos had hoped, but a dominant win over Wyoming will keep them in the BCS picture.
