Georgia vs. Georgia Tech: 5 Things We Learned from the Bulldogs Against Tech

Brian JonesNov 26, 2011

The Georgia Bulldogs wanted to end their regular season on a high note, and they did that on Saturday when they took down Georgia Tech and improve their record to 10-2.

The win against the Yellow Jackets doesn't affect their conference record or help them earn a spot in the BCS national championship. But a win is a win, and the Bulldogs proved that they are worthy of being a top-10 team.

They did some things that were encouraging, and they did a few things that were discouraging. But at the end of the day, they have gotten better each game and are ready for next week, when they face LSU for the SEC championship.

Here's five things to take away from the Bulldogs win against the Yellow Jackets...

The Defense Is a Disciplined Bunch

1 of 5

The Georgia Tech rushing offense is the second best in the country.

The Georgia rushing defense is the second best in the country.

Something had to give and while the Yellow Jackets did make some plays on the ground, the Bulldogs maintained their assignments and made sure that players such as Orwin Smith and Tevin Washington did not run wild.

This performance by the defense was not the best, but it showed they have made tremendous strides from where they were last year,

Drew Butler Is Going to Get Drafted

2 of 5

We all knew how good Drew Butler was before the Tech game, but he showed once again why he is one of the best in the country.

Butler only punted the ball three times, but two of his punts landed inside the 5-yard line.

His punts were crucial because it forced Tech to produce long drives which is something that they could not do.

Aaron Murray Is Developing as a Passer

3 of 5

Aaron Murray is already the best QB in the conference, but he will even say he has room to grow.

In the win against the Yellow Jackets, Murray made throws that would make NFL quarterbacks jealous.

He is a student of the game and if he continues to get better each game, he will be a Heisman candidate next year.

The Bulldogs Need a Healthy Every Down Back

4 of 5

As good as Murray was, he would have put up better numbers if the running game got going early.

Isaiah Crowell did not play so Ken Malcolme and Carlton Thomas had to carry the load along with Branden Smith.

Thomas is not a every down back and Malcolme is not ready to take that role. So Crowell has to get healthy fast if the Bulldogs want to take down LSU at the Georgia Dome.

The Bulldogs Never Overlooked the Yellow Jackets

5 of 5

There was that chance that the Bulldogs would overlook the Yellow Jackets because LSU was right around the corner.

That was not the case because the Bulldogs were ready for the Yellow Jackets and made sure that they did not have a 10-win season.

The Bulldogs won the turnover battle and gained 380 yards of total offense. They were focused as they have ever been and it looks like this team is as ready as they will ever be for the SEC title game.
