Georgia vs. Georgia Tech: 5 Halftime Adjustments the Bulldogs Must Make

Nick YokoyamaNov 26, 2011

We should be in for a great finish today as the No. 13 Georgia Bulldogs take on the No. 23 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Seeking their 10th victory, Mark Richt and the Bulldogs are looking to slow down the swarming Yellow Jackets in Atlanta.

Here are five halftime adjustments Georgia must consider if they want to come out on top of this heated rivalry game.

Protect Murray

The Bulldogs need to keep QB Aaron Murray on his feet in the second half. Murray's only interception of the day came when he was hit in the pocket, and Georgia cannot afford to get Murray banged up before next week's SEC Championship game.

Look for GT to dial up the blitzes in the second half, and the Bulldogs must protect their QB if they want to win this game.

Mistakes

Georgia has already had a number of stupid mistakes throughout the first half. Luckily, Murray's big interception, as well as some costly red zone penalties, have not truly harmed them in this game.

If the Bulldogs limit their errors in the second half, they should have a clear path to victory.

Get Motivated

Although Georgia does have a much bigger game on the horizon next week, they need to stay motivated if they want to win this game.

Expect the Yellow Jackets to come out firing in the second half, as they have a chance to finish the season with 10 wins.

Richt will most likely consider sitting some starters as the game winds down, which should be even more motivation for the Bulldogs to come out hot and put this game away early.

Force Long Third Downs

GT's offense is severely limited in long-yardage situations. The Bulldogs need to focus on getting stops on early downs, leaving the Yellow Jackets at 3rd-and-long.

GT likes to roll the dice on forth down, and Georgia can limit their options by forcing them into long third down conversions.

Orson Charles in the Seam

The Bulldogs have had a lot of success lining up TE Orson Charles in the slot. Murray has easily been able to pick apart GT's D, especially when they line up in Cover Two.

Look for a lot more play-action to Charles in the seam in the second half.
