NHL Trade Rumors: One Dream Trade Each Team Would Love to Make
Very rarely does it ever happen in the NHL that a team goes the entire season without making some kind of trade.
Every team is always looking to improve their roster in one way or another.
Whether or not it is possible, each team also has a dream trade scenario they would love to pull off if all the stars were able to align in just the right way.
Here is a look at the dream trade scenario for each team.
As always, share your thoughts on your dream scenarios in the comments section.
Anaheim Ducks
1 of 30I think the Ducks would absolutely love to get a hold of a guy like Jason Spezza.
Spezza matches the identity of the Ducks, who have a team full of guys that are big and strong and really talented.
The best thing Spezza has to offer the Ducks is his passing.
Currently, the Ducks have a lot of scorers on the same team that could really use a setup guy to bring it all together.
Spezza is very capable of scoring in his own right, but his six goals and 14 assists this season show he has a very strong ability to get other guys on his team the puck in good scoring areas.
Ottawa might not be that far from blowing up their roster, so the potential is there for Anaheim to get Spezza, who is still young, for some draft picks or prospects.
Boston Bruins
2 of 30Though the Blue Jackets deny it, there have been rumors that Rick Nash might want out of Columbus.
If he were to get out of Columbus, about the best place for him to end up would be with the defending Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins.
Boston's top scorers pretty much go right up the middle of their roster, with the exception of Milan Lucic, and a power forward that has the sniping capabilities of Nash would be a beautiful fit for the Boston Bruins.
I don't think the Jackets are ready to part ways with Nash just yet, but this would definitely be a dream scenario for the Boston Bruins.
Buffalo Sabres
3 of 30Christian Ehrhoff is doing pretty well with Buffalo to create some offense, but other than him there hasn't been a ton of offensive production from Sabres defenders.
Erik Karlsson is currently among the league leaders in points from defenders and could really help push Buffalo to the next level.
If Ottawa does want to blow up their roster, a guy like Karlsson could provide a lot of good value for them.
Calgary Flames
4 of 30Zach Parise is a player a lot of teams will be looking to try and get for obvious reasons.
He is young and incredibly talented and would be the perfect player to base a rebuild around.
If Calgary does try to blow up their roster, Parise would be a good guy to go after for those exact reasons.
If the stars aligned, Parise would make a great addition to the Calgary Flames.
Carolina Hurricanes
5 of 30Carolina needs a legitimate, elite, shutdown defender on their roster to help Cam Ward.
Not only would Shea Weber help that, he would also help their offense and power play with his booming shot from the point.
Plus, Weber maybe be the prize of the trade market this year and Carolina could be the best spot for him if he enjoys the south.
Carolina would make this trade in a heartbeat any time of the year.
Chicago Blackhawks
6 of 30The Blackhawks really seem like a pretty complete team from top to bottom.
About the only place where I find some kind of actual need is in net. Corey Crawford is a decent goalie, but his numbers this year aren't that stellar.
He has a GAA of 2.77 and a save percentage right at .900.
I would say Jonathan Bernier would be their dream trade situation, since he would create a healthy goalie competition and provide great depth in net that is currently lacking in Chicago.
Given two really strong young goalies, the Blackhawks could be the team to beat in the West.
Colorado Avalanche
7 of 30Again, let us remember that this is a stars align scenario where everybody's dreams come true.
Calgary is sitting at last in the Northwest Division right now. Depending on where they sit when the All-Star break comes along, they could also be looking to blow up their roster and rebuild.
One of the biggest issues the Avalanche have at the moment is keeping a consistent level of intensity throughout the course of a game.
There is almost nobody else in the NHL that is more consistently intense and in the game as Jarome Iginla, and he is also one of the best leaders in the NHL today.
Iginla seems to always be involved in some type of trade rumor, and with a rebuild around the corner, this may be the year he finally gets shipped elsewhere.
Plus, the Avalanche need a scoring winger and Iginla is just that.
There would definitely be some prospects and draft picks sent back to Calgary. I could see Tyson Barrie being included in this kind of deal.
Columbus Blue Jackets
8 of 30Columbus has a couple serious scorers on their team in Rick Nash and Jeff Carter.
Something they desperately need is a skilled setup guy.
Nicklas Backstrom is currently second in the NHL in assists and could be useful to help both Carter and Nash score in both five-on-five situations and the power play.
Washington could be satisfied with a Columbus first-rounder plus a prospect or something along those lines, since Columbus' draft pick figures to be very high in the first round.
It would have to be a pretty good offer, though.
Dallas Stars
9 of 30Shea Weber is a guy that is going to top a lot of people's biggest dream list, and Dallas is no different.
Weber does everything you need an elite defenseman to do, because he is on in every single situation.
Dallas doesn't have a true top-tier shutdown defender, and Weber would fill that need. He'd improve their penalty kill immediately because of his ability and physical nature of his game.
He also has a cannon of a shot. Imagine Weber and Sheldon Souray as the first pairing on the power play unit. If you are a goalie, this is about the scariest possibility out there.
Dream come true, definitely.
Detroit Red Wings
10 of 30The Red Wings have this crazy ability to not only find great players in the draft, but to also add incredibly skilled players through trades.
I think the Red Wings would love to get a guy like Daniel Alfredsson through trade, not necessarily because he fills a hole for the team but because they like guys who want to get a championship and will fill whatever role the team needs him to.
Alfredsson still has a lot to offer but is coming towards the end of his career on a team that is headed straight for a rebuild.
Alfredsson could be coming to the end of a great run in Ottawa, and Detroit seems like not only a dream destination, but a likely one.
Edmonton Oilers
11 of 30The Oilers are one of the biggest surprise teams in the league, but they definitely stand some room to improve.
The Oilers are very high in skill with guys like Taylor Hall and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, but they are a bit lacking in the grittiness—save for Ryan Smyth and Shawn Horcoff.
Rene Bourque brings a pretty attractive combination of skill and grit with his determined forechecking and great shot.
Bourque could help the Oilers be a threat to go deep into the playoffs this year.
Florida Panthers
12 of 30The Florida Panthers have gotten off to a good start but are still very suspect in net with Jose Theodore and Scott Clemmensen.
Clemmensen has been behind Tomas Vokoun for a long time and is unproven as a starter.
Theodore was a backup for Minnesota and never managed to separate himself from Peter Budaj in Colorado.
There is the possibility of Jacob Markstrom, but you have to be careful with when you bring in young goalies so you don't shatter their confidence.
Cory Schneider may be showing himself as the best goalie in Vancouver right now, but Roberto Luongo's giant contract could prove incredibly difficult to trade. I somehow doubt he'd want to go back to Florida.
Schneider could provide some great consistency in net for a team looking to finally push for the playoffs.
Los Angeles Kings
13 of 30Alex Tanguay is a guy who has never gotten enough credit for the type of game he plays.
He's had great success in multiple places (I'm still very upset he was traded away from Colorado for Jordan Leopold) and could be a great addition to the Kings.
If you think of the high skill level on the Kings, you immediately think of Anze Kopitar, who can pretty much do it all.
If you add Tanguay to the second line that Kopitar doesn't play against, you now have two lethal playmakers with scoring ability on your top two lines.
Tanguay is one of those guys that makes everybody else on his team better because of his creativity and vision with the puck.
Adding Tanguay could make the Kings the favorites in the Western Conference.
Minnesota Wild
14 of 30Minnesota plays a very defensive brand of hockey that usually results in them being among the lowest goal-scoring teams in the league.
This season is no different, as they currently rank towards the bottom once again.
They made some bold moves to fix this during the offseason, acquiring Dany Heatley and Devin Setoguchi, but still need more scoring from their back end.
Sergei Gonchar is a very responsible defenseman that also has loads of experience and offensive talent, which could benefit a team like Minnesota.
With Minnesota's hot start, and the fact Ottawa may blow up their roster, Gonchar could find himself making another playoff push with an unlikely team.
Montreal Canadiens
15 of 30Rick Nash is another guy that would definitely top most teams' shopping lists if their dreams were going to come true.
Montreal is a very skilled team that isn't very big up front, with a few exceptions.
Nash could add a lot more strength and skill to the first line on the Canadiens and could really help create more opportunities for guys like Brian Gionta and Mike Cammalleri.
Basically, more opposing teams would have to pay attention to stopping Nash.
This would be an absolute dream come true for both Nash and the Canadiens.
Nashville Predators
16 of 30Zach Parise is another guy that any team would be glad to take, but Nashville might be a perfect fit for him.
Parise would give Nashville a true sniper to help up their scoring a little bit, and Parise is also a player that we know is selfless enough to play defense.
Or else he wouldn't have been able to play in New Jersey.
With the potential departure of Shea Weber, Parise could slide right in and help the Predators back into the playoffs.
New Jersey Devils
17 of 30Ales Hemsky has a ton of skill and isn't exactly an old man in the league.
Combining his skill with the likes of Ilya Kovalchuk and Patrik Elias could give the Devils' somewhat weak offense a much-needed boost.
Plus, he's got some very good size to him.
Trade rumors seem to follow Hemsky around, so it's possible this might finally come to fruition.
New York Islanders
18 of 30We'll see Zach Parise once more on this list because he fits what the Islanders really need, and that is somebody that will score a lot of goals.
The Islanders currently are last in every major offensive category, and Parise would definitely be able to help them turn that around.
What's more, Parise is still very young and would fit right in with the other young guys on the team.
Getting Parise is definitely a dream scenario for the Isles and could be one that would turn their franchise around.
New York Rangers
19 of 30The Rangers have a couple needs for their team that they could use stars for.
I chatted with Bleacher Report Featured Columnist for the New York Rangers, Tom Urtz, to see what he thought the best solution would be for the Rangers.
According to Tom, the biggest need and dream scenario matchup is on the wing and could be solved with Alex Semin.
Semin could really complete the top six forwards in Madison Square Garden and make the Rangers, who are already a dangerous team, an absolutely lethal team to play against.
Ottawa Senators
20 of 30Ottawa is about to start rebuilding and will need somebody around which to build the team.
Evander Kane is a young and very talented leader that has had a few trade rumors surrounding him this season.
The rumors are swirling that he apparently wants out of Winnipeg, though he denies it.
Kane could move to another struggling Canadian city that needs a strong young leader, as its biggest leader is nearing the end of his career.
Kane would be a dream way to start the rebuild.
Philadelphia Flyers
21 of 30The Flyers are one of the deepest teams in the league right now, leading the league in pretty much every offensive category there is.
The big issue right now is their captain, Chris Pronger, who will be out for a while with a leg injury, meaning they need some size back on the blue line.
Jay Bouwmeester has size and a lot of ability and his name seems to swim in the trade bait pool pretty much every year.
Bouwmeester could really fit the Flyers mold very well. He's big and tough and has a bomb of a shot.
He could definitely be a good fit for the Flyers.
Phoenix Coyotes
22 of 30Phoenix is a tough team that likes to play a physical game.
Bobby Ryan would be a great fit to their system and would add a lot of skill to a team that doesn't score a ton of goals.
They play a defensive game and pounce when they get their opportunity. Bobby Ryan could really help Phoenix out, and a change of scenery might help him out as well.
Pittsburgh Penguins
23 of 30If there is one thing the Penguins could use a little bit more of, it's defenders that can score.
Mark Giordano currently leads the Flames with eight points and put up 40 points last year.
Kris Letang has been tearing up the stat sheet since the start of the season, but it never hurts to have a more support.
Other than this, Pittsburgh is very deep and a very complete team.
San Jose Sharks
24 of 30The San Jose Sharks like really big guys that have a lot of skill.
Bobby Ryan absolutely fits that mold.
Anaheim would be crazy to trade him within the division, but sometimes you just can't choose where the best offer comes from.
For San Jose, this would be a dream addition.
St. Louis Blues
25 of 30The St. Louis Blues are a very interesting team.
They are getting great goaltending from an unlikely source, they have a pretty solid defense and a mix of young and veteran players throughout their lineup.
Though they are hard to predict, the one thing that could take this team to the next level is a true sniper that could put up 40 goals a year.
The Blues had hopes Chris Stewart might be that type of player, but he has been a bit of a disappointment this season.
Zach Parise would give this team that exact type of sniper and make them a real threat in the Western Conference.
Tampa Bay Lightning
26 of 30Goalie is the position where Tampa Bay is probably the weakest, and if they want to push deep into the playoffs they need to address that.
Cory Schneider is ready to challenge for a starting job and I guess would be more likely to be traded out of Vancouver than Roberto Luongo.
He is the easier of the two to trade.
Schneider is already a very solid goalie and would no doubt thrive in the very defensive 1-3-1 system.
Toronto Maple Leafs
27 of 30It isn't a secret Toronto has been interested in Paul Stastny ever since last season.
The Maple Leafs have wanted a center that can take on their top line, and they think Stastny is that guy.
Last season, I didn't see it happening in any way, shape or form. This season might be another story for the Avalanche, who have gotten very little out of Stastny.
It's possible he is done in Denver and might want to move to a team that has more of a shot and has ownership that is actually interested in giving its team a chance to win.
Stastny could make a good fit in Toronto in my opinion.
Vancouver Canucks
28 of 30Shane Doan is a staple in the desert, but that could change for a couple reasons.
First, the unstable ownership situation may force the team to drop salary.
Second, nearing the end of his career, Doan may want to have a shot at a championship with a team that could use his skills.
Vancouver could use the depth up front, where they currently get no secondary scoring.
Other than the Sedins, Chris Higgins is currently the highest scoring forward on the team with 12 points. Vancouver needs a scorer that can come into the second line and start putting the puck in the net.
Washington Capitals
29 of 30Offense is never the issue in Washington, but they need somebody to solidify that blue line and make it a feared place to go.
Shea Weber would also help their power play—as if it really needs that much more help—with his powerful shot.
Alex Ovechkin might be the star of the team, but Weber could end up being the leader of the team.
Winnipeg Jets
30 of 30There are widespread reports from several locations that Jeff Carter already wants out of Columbus.
If Columbus were to go ahead and make this happen, Winnipeg could be a good landing spot as the Jets need a strong top-level center that can score goals.
Carter might not be happy in Columbus, and things might not get much easier in Winnipeg, but he would no doubt be happier with the atmosphere around the team in Winnipeg.
