Norwich City: 4 Reasons Why the Canaries Must Beat QPR
Norwich City are gearing up for a tricky match against QPR. Both clubs know that these sorts of games are likely to be somewhat more crucial than fixtures against teams in the Top Six.
Survival in the Premier League is all about taking points off the teams that are likely to finish in the same area of the table. Points gained against the teams in the top end of the table should be seen as an added bonus.
Here are four reasons Norwich need to the win the game. Hope you all enjoy reading.
Momentum
1 of 4In football, momentum is a very powerful thing. The problem is that it can go both ways. Multiple times, we have seen teams getting relegated and then failing to adapt to the Championship due to the downward spiral of momentum.
In recent times, Norwich City have been on a course of upward momentum. This process started when Paul Lambert was first appointed as manager and Norwich City were a League One club.
Lambert's impact was immediate and the club ended up winning promotion from League One that season. Last season, the team won promotion to the Premier League from the Championship.
But the Premier League is a different situation altogether, and the Canaries are up against teams that have better individual players most weeks. Getting results every week has become a lot harder.
Norwich started off this season very brightly and forced their way into the top half of the Premier League table.
The last four games haven't been so good and have returned only two points. This run of games without a league win needs to end sooner rather than later to ensure the Canaries don't get dragged into the relegation fight.
Norwich are currently four points clear of 18th placed Bolton, but that gap can quickly change if the Canaries' run without a win continues.
Playing at Home
2 of 4Newly promoted teams always know that survival is going to be a challenge. So it's vital that Norwich pick up as many points as they possibly can at home, especially with a tough away game at Manchester City to come after the QPR game.
These Are Must-Win Games
3 of 4Both of these sides were playing in the Championship last season. Since then, the two clubs have taken different approaches to the sort of players required for Premier League survival.
Neil Warnock prefers to look at established Premier League players, while Paul Lambert has looked towards players he knows best from outside of the Premier League. Both sides look to continue their preferred approaches when the January transfer window opens for business.
On Saturday, there may not be much between the two sides, but expect an open game with Paul Lambert's attacking intent and Norwich's inability to keep clean sheets.
The Canaries know that this game would be vital, whether it was played at Carrow Road or Loftus Road. Taking points off the sides around you is the recipe for successful survival.
Some QPR fans may believe that their team now has the ability to sustain a place in the top half of the Premier League, but I still expect them to be in the relegation shake-up. In any case, the two sides are currently close in the league table, with just two points between them.
To Prove That Norwich Are a Passing Team
4 of 4One of the most disappointing elements of Norwich City's defeat to Arsenal last week was their inability to pass the ball. It may cause some people to believe that the Canaries are a long-ball team, but of course we all know that is not the case.
A convincing win against QPR while passing the ball as they can may prove to many doubters how well the team can play. The end result would be three points and credit for proving their ability with the ball.
