BYU Big East: Conference Better Off Without Arrogant Cougars
Good riddance, BYU.
The Big East may be stretching the geographical boundaries by adding Boise State, but they donโt need to stretch their pride. Ralph Drusso of the Associated Press is reporting that talks between the Big East and BYU have ended.
For whatever reason, BYU thinks itโs better than other schools. They think they are the West Coast version of Notre Dame.

Not quite. The Cougars are 11-17-1 all-time in bowl games and their second most famous football alum is Ty Detmer.
Yet the Cougars are creating parameters that are simply unrealistic for a school like BYU. The Salt Lake Tribune has quotes from a source close to the situation explaining these absurd demands:
"โIt is at the point where [the Big East] has made its last offer, and [BYU] doesnโt agree to those terms regarding entrance. That could change in a week, but it will have to come from [BYU].โ
The source said the deal-breaker was BYUโs quest for assurances that it could either keep its existing television contracts or receive an โironclad assuranceโ that its situation regarding television would be improved as a Big East member.
โThatโs something [the Big East] has never done for anyone,โ he said.
"
The Cougars are trying to get special treatment and the Big East isnโt having it. Now that they can move on from these independent egomaniacs, the committee can continue their search out west.
San Diego State, Houston, SMU and Air Force are all on the list. They donโt have bloated expectations surrounding themselves and would be more than willing to join the conference on the Big Eastโs terms.
Because thatโs what schools like that do, they accept the terms in exchange for much more exposure and money.
BYU just blew their chance, and I think that ends up being a blessing in disguise for the Big East.
