BCS Bowl Predictions: The Best Possible BCS Matchups

Danny FlynnNov 24, 2011

Whether you like the idea of a possible LSU-Alabama rematch or not is inconsequential, because that seems to be the direction we’re heading in.

Yes, a lot can still happen in these final two weeks, and Arkansas could upset LSU and Auburn might upset Alabama, but the odds are currently in favor of the Tigers and the Tide meeting in New Orleans for the BCS national championship game.

With that in mind, let’s then shift our focus to the other four BCS bowl games.

With the way things look right now, here’s the best possible pairing for each of the other four BCS bowl games.

Sugar Bowl: Houston vs. Oklahoma

1 of 4

If you’re a lover of offensive football like me, then this is the postseason pairing you’ve got to be hoping for.

Houston has been putting up video-game numbers this season, leading the country in both scoring offense and total offense, averaging 53 points and 618 yards per game.

Everyone’s wondering if Houston is really a true BCS contender or not, and Oklahoma just so happens to be one of the most respected programs in the country.

Landry Jones vs. Case Keenum—you would have to set the over/under at 88, and that probably wouldn’t even be enough.

Rose Bowl: Wisconsin vs. Oregon

2 of 4

Oregon and Wisconsin each got picked off twice this year, but besides those four games, the Badgers and the Ducks have been two of the most dominant teams in the country throughout the season.

These are two of the most powerful offensive attacks in college football, and you’ve got bona fide star power in both backfields with Wisconsin’s duo of QB Russell Wilson and RB Montee Ball and Oregon’s tandem of QB Darron Thomas and RB LaMichael James.

You also have to factor in that both teams will be seeking BCS vengeance after losing in the postseason last year.

Orange Bowl: Virginia Tech vs. West Virginia

3 of 4

As a West Virginia fan who’s hoping to go to the Orange Bowl this year, the matchup I’d like for the Mountaineers most is old Big East rival Virginia Tech.

Although the Mountaineers still have a long way to go to win the Big East, it looks like Virginia Tech is well on its way to winning the ACC. All the Hokies have to do is take care of business against Virginia and Clemson.

With all of the young emerging talent on both rosters, these two teams look like they’re going to be Top 10 contenders in 2012, and it would be nice to get an early measure of who has the better outlook for next season.

Fiesta Bowl: Stanford vs. Oklahoma State

4 of 4

Andrew Luck and Brandon Weeden have both suffered devastating losses this year, but both have also enjoyed terrific campaigns, as they’ve guided their respective teams into the national championship hunt.

Luck and Weeden both know what it’s like to be a Heisman favorite (even if Weeden only got to enjoy it for a week) and both have put together fantastic statistical years in 2011.

It would certainly be fun to watch these two talented quarterbacks shoot it out in the desert.
