Waiver Wire Week 12: Toby Gerhart and Smartest One-Week Flex Plays
One-tenth of the fantasy world was absolutely terrified to see Adrian Peterson go down with an ankle injury on Sunday.
The bad news: It’s a high ankle sprain. The good news: It should only cost him one game. Here are three players to help fill the A.P. void in Week 12:
Toby Gerhart, Minnesota Vikings

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Why not pluck Peterson's backup? Well, maybe because he has yet to run for over 36 yards this season.
Then again, seven carries is the largest workload he has received in a game this season.
It’s not the greatest matchup going against the Falcons' second-ranked defense, but the Vikings are going to give him 20-25 touches, which has to equal some solid fantasy production.
Kevin Smith, Detroit Lions
From the outhouse to the penthouse in three weeks, Smith is suddenly the go-to back for the Lions. He is coming off a ridiculous 140-yard and two-touchdown performance that makes him a must-start, especially against a Packers team that will likely engage the Lions in a shootout.
You better hurry though; he won’t be on the waiver wire for very long. Sure, he will surrender a handful of carries to Maurice Morris and Keiland Williams, but Smith is now the go-to back until Jahvid Best returns.
Ryan Grant, Green Bay Packers
As stated above, this game is going to be a high-scoring affair, and James Starks is likely to sit this one out because of the quick turnaround.
That means for the first time all season, Grant is the main and only back aside from John Kuhn in short yardage situations.
Grant has been almost worthless this season, but the Lions are 28th in the league against the run. They give up 134.7 yards per game, and with Grant the primary runner, you figure he’s in line for roughly 80 yards. A TD would be icing on the cake.
