5 Possible Tag Teams TNA Could Create to Save the Division

Anthony PetronzioNov 21, 2011

It is no secret to wrestling fans that TNA's tag team division is not what it used to be.

With Jesse Neal's TNA future in doubt, TNA only has three real tag teams, two of which wrestle (Mexican America and Crimson/Matt Morgan), and one of which is hampered by injuries (Motor City Machine Guns).

The Pope and Devon and British Invasion both have had title shots this year, but neither has appeared on Impact in quite some time.

The following slideshow shows five tag teams that I feel would be good for TNA. I also wrote why I feel that, and how they could fit in a storyline.

So read and enjoy!

Gunner and Scott Steiner

1 of 6

These two wrestlers are already in Immortal together, so why not take it a step further and make them a tag team?

Both of these wrestlers could use the other. Steiner is great on the mic, and while he is still good in the ring, the youth of Gunner wouldn't hurt. Gunner is not too good on the mic, and can learn from a great like Steiner. Steiner has also been a tag team champion before with the Steiner Brothers.

This team would be easy to fit in the story line, as they can be part of Immortal's quest to return to power. With Bully Ray chasing the Heavyweight title, these two are the logical choices for an Immortal tag team.

X Division Style Team

2 of 6

I know the idea is kind of vague, but you get the idea.

The X Division is also not doing too well right now. TNA has good X Division wrestlers like Zema Ion or Tony Nese, who do not get a good amount of TV time. An X Division tag team would give these wrestlers time on Impact, and would be very entertaining to watch. X Division style teams like the Motor City Machine Guns and Lethal Consequences have done very well in the past, so the idea seems risk-free.

In a story line, the wrestlers can try and prove how they are worthy of more TV time, as well as proof that the X Division as a whole is a draw.

Jeff Hardy and Mr. Anderson

3 of 6

This is another team that has worked together, but hasn't been a real tag team yet.

Hardy and Anderson are two of the most charismatic wrestlers on Impact's roster, and would be the top face tag team. Anderson is gold on the mic, but I feel his moves are a little stale now, and would benefit from having an exciting wrestler like Hardy. Plus, Hardy has already been part of a successful tag team, the Hardy Bros.

These two could easily feud with Gunner and Steiner, because both were basically ditched by Immortal. The tag team desperately needs a good feud right now.

Samoa Joe and Daniels

These two have been in classic matches against each other, so imagine them teaming up.

Right now, both are going in similar directions, as both are tired of being passed up on. Both can attract heat and put on incredible matches. Both are also TNA originals who need a spot, which the tag team would fit perfectly.

Both are using ruthless techniques against opponents recently, (Daniels screwdriver anyone?) and could feud with Fortune or other young talent TNA is pushing. This team being successful could also give a push both wrestlers could use.

RVD and Jerry Lynn

5 of 6

One of wrestling's legendary feuds can now come together in the tag team division.

These two wrestlers have very similar styles that involve high-flying and gore. They always push the limits, and the tag division needs a team to go above and beyond right now. Also, the many years of working together would probably lead to good chemistry in the ring.

I feel like this team would work better with an RVD heel turn rather than a Jerry Lynn face turn. The team could feud with the X Division team, saying they pioneered the high-flying style, or do hardcore matches with Steiner/Gunner or Joe/Daniels.

Final Thoughts

6 of 6

There are really countless combos that could be made. I just put them together based on how I feel fans would react, wrestling styles and the wrestlers' careers up to this point.

The main point however, is that TNA needs to fix the tag division quick. Hopefully they do that, and maybe use some of the same ideas brought up here.

As always, I like to hear what people think, so feel free to comment and suggest changes or different teams.

Thanks for reading!
