Predicting the Miami Dolphins' Remaining Schedule

Mario CuadrosNov 21, 2011

With three straight victories, the Miami Dolphins look like the team everyone expected at the beginning of the season. The defense has played like a top 10 defense, and the offense has played mistake-free football.

They have averaged 28.6 points per game in their three victories while only allowing 6.6 points per game and no touchdowns. The defensive line has finally lived up to its potential and has been putting constant pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

With six games left in the regular season, it looks like the Dolphins are out of playoff contention unless a miracle where to happen. With little playoff hopes, the Dolphins have a lot to play for, however. They will look to play the spoiler role and ruin other team's playoff hopes.

Let's take a look at the Miami Dolphins' remaining schedule.

Miami Dolphins at Dallas Cowboys

1 of 6

The Miami Dolphins will be on a short week when they take on the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Thursday. The 'Fins have been playing their best football as of late and will take on a red-hot Cowboys team that has a winning streak of its own.

The Cowboys, like the Dolphins, are riding a three-game winning streak coming into this game after beating the Redskins in overtime. Tony Romo has finally stopped turning the ball over and has been finding open receivers. They also found their running game with Demarco Murray and will provide a tough test for Miami.

The Dolphins come into this game after steamrolling the Buffalo Bills at home. The 'Fins are playing their best football of the year, and the defense is looking like one of the top defense's in the league. If the Dolphins can limit their turnovers as they have been the last few weeks, they can surprise a lot of people with a victory. Matt Moore has to keep playing efficient football, and the defense needs to keep playing aggressive.

Result: Cowboys 24-Dolphins 23

Miami Dolphins vs. Oakland Raiders

2 of 6

Miami will host another playoff contender when they take on the Oakland Raiders in Week 13. Miami played the Raiders last year at Oakland and came out with a 33-17 victory.

The Raiders have the third best rushing offense in the league, but Darren McFadden was ruled out again for this week's game against the Minnesota Vikings with a foot injury, and it's possible he might not be ready when they make the trip to Miami. They have the 24th-ranked defense, which allows 25.4 points per game and 371.7 yards per game.

The Dolphins will look to take advantage of their newly found offensive weapons in Anthony Fasano and Charles Clay to find favorable matchups. Both Reggie Bush and Daniel Thomas will look to have big games against a defense that gives up 131.6 yards per game.

The Dolphins defense will also have a big game stopping the run and will limit the Raiders to become one-dimensional and force Carson Palmer to beat them.

Result: Dolphins 27-Raiders 6

Miami Dolphins vs. Philadelphia Eagles

3 of 6

The Dolphins will take their potential five-game winning streak to Philadelphia and take on a struggling Eagles team. The Eagles didn't look bad with Vince Young at quarterback, but will probably stick to Michael Vick once he comes back from injury. The Eagles can come out and play like they did against the Cowboys in Week 8 or how they played against the Cardinals in Week 10.

The Eagles have one of the best running backs in the league in LeSean McCoy and one of the most explosive quarterbacks in Michael Vick. The Dolphins defense ranks seventh in the league in rushing defense giving up 98.7 yards per game and only three touchdowns.

On the other hand, the Eagles lead the league in rushing with 168 yards per game. It will be interesting to see who wins this matchup, with the winner having the upper hand.

Depending on whether Michael Vick plays, this will be a close game that comes down to the wire. If Vick is unable to play, I would give the slight edge to the Dolphins.

Result: Eagles 24-Dolphins 20

Miami Dolphins at Buffalo Bills

4 of 6

The Miami Dolphins will head to Buffalo in Week 15 and take on a Bills team that may or may not be in the playoff picture at this time. The Dolphins absolutely hammered the Bills at home in Week 11 and will look to the the same at Ralph Wilson Stadium in the middle of December. Not an easy place to play when it's that cold.

The Bills will look to take revenge against the 'Fins in front of their home fans. They have split the season series every year since 2008 and may possibly do the same this year.

The Bills have the 26th-ranked defense, and it showed this week against Miami. They were outplayed at the line of scrimmage, in the passing game and were physically outmatched at every position. Matt Moore practically did whatever he wanted and tore the defense apart.

On the other hand, the Dolphins defense played one of their best defensive games and held the Bills to eight points. This game will probably come down to who plays better defense and who runs the ball more effectively.

Result: Dolphins 28-Bills 10

Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots

5 of 6

When these two teams first met, Tom Brady looked like the greatest quarterback to ever play the game, and the Dolphins defense easily looked like on the worst in the league. Even though the Patriots boast the second best offense in the league with 431.9 yards per game, the Dolphins defense has drastically improved and will pose a greater challenge this time around.

The way Matt Moore has played, it's easy to see him having another good game against New England. They have the worst defense in the league and absolutely can't stop anyone on the air. Miami will have a chip on their shoulder from the first meeting and will find a way to stop their two tight end set. The defensive line is playing lights out right now and will get constant pressure on Tom Brady.

Result: Dolphins 17-Patriots 14

Miami Dolphins vs. New York Jets

6 of 6

Miami will enter its last game of the season without any playoff hopes, but will look to play the spoiler role against the rival Jets. These two teams really don't like each other, and it has been proven in the last couple of seasons.

Even though Channing Crowder is no longer with the Dolphins to trash talk before the game, Brandon Marshall has gladly stepped into that role. He threatened to get kicked out of the last game, but instead, had one of his better games against Darrelle Revis.

If it weren't for a game-changing interception where Darrelle Revis was clearly grabbing Marshall's shirt and returned it for a touchdown, the game would have been much closer than it was. The Jets have been struggling offensively in both the passing game and the rushing game. Their defense has been solid all year, but didn't look as good against the Broncos this past week.

If the Dolphins can take care of the ball and keep playing defense like they have been, they will have a chance to come out with a victory.

The Jets might need to win this last game to earn a wild card berth and, even though the Dolphins don't have anything to play for, they will gladly ruin the Jets playoff hopes.

Result: Dolphins 21-Jets 10
