BCS Rankings: Lack of Consistent Teams Crippling 2011 College Football Season
The 2011 college football season has been as vanilla as it gets.
Aside from a miracle Hail Mary from Wisconsin and a four-TD underdog Texas Tech beating mighty Oklahoma—this season has provided little drama.
Oregon? Stanford? Clemson? Oklahoma?
All of them are frauds.
The latest BCS rankings have three SEC West teams on top (LSU, Alabama, Arkansas). That really stinks.
I don't care to see rematches, yet that looks like the only logically solution at this point.
For all of the glowing comments No. 4 Oklahoma State received this year, they couldn't handle the pressure. There is no excuse for losing to the Iowa State Cyclones.
The best example of how weak this season is lies in No. 5 Virginia Tech. The Hokies played absolutely NOBODY out of conference, got blown out against their only Top 10 opponent (Clemson) and are starting a sophomore QB that had zero experience in his collegiate career.
This would have been the perfect year for No. 7 Boise State to make their case to be in the championship game. Instead, they let TCU hang around for far too long and the game was placed in the hands of a kicker—and you know the rest.
No. 8 Houston is a perfect 11-0, but haven't played any decent team of note. There is no barometer to judge them by and the computers are reflecting as much.
Alabama vs. LSU II seems like it makes the most sense at this point. So when Arkansas shocks the Tigers on Friday, then what?
With the way this mediocre season has gone, you get the feeling it's going to happen.
Maybe nobody should be in the championship. If LSU loses to the Razorbacks, it's the only outcome that makes some sort of sense.
