BCS Standings: Teams That Will Be Devastated by New Ranking
The Oklahoma State Cowboys are going to be really disappointed when they tune in to the latest revealing of the 2011 BCS standings.
In fact, I would take it up a notch and say that they will be devastated.
It will be hard not to be. This is a team that was 10-0 and 7-0 in the Big 12, and was literally two games away from securing a hands-down undisputed spot in the National Championship.
Instead, they dropped what should have been an easy win to unranked Iowa State in double overtime, and essentially all of their championship hopes went down the drain.
They still do find themselves in a very elite group of one-loss teams, but I'm not sure their new ranking will reflect that.
The difference between Alabama and Oklahoma State is that the Tide lost to the best team in the nation.
Oklahoma State lost to an unranked 5-4 Iowa State Cyclones team that had no business even being on the same field let alone winning.
The Cyclones forced quarterback Brandon Weeden, who is a possible Heisman candidate mind you, into three interceptions.
They also racked up a grand total of 568 yards, led by duel threat rookie quarterback Jared Barnett, who threw for three touchdowns and ran for 84 yards.
When all is said and done, I don't expect the Cowboys will enjoy their new ranking all that much. Here are two other teams that will be pretty devastated by their new spot:
Clemson
There was a point where Clemson looked like they could be a National Championship contender coming out of the ACC, especially with wins over ranked Auburn, Florida State and Virginia Tech.
Losing to an unranked Georgia Tech team was explainable, especially considering the Yellow Jackets have looked pretty good at points this season.
There is no excuse for losing to NC State though, especially in the manner they did.
The Tigers lost 37-13 to a 5-5 football team, which isn't a good look for a team with the No. 7 ranking in the nation.
Oklahoma
With Oklahoma State losing, the Sooners found themselves back in the BCS title hunt and with the opportunity to fight for the Big 12 championship.
They dropped the ball in a big way though losing 38-45 to Baylor.
They allowed Robert Griffin III to complete 21-of-34 for 479 yards and four touchdowns.
They went from a one-loss team with BCS championship potential, to a two loss team that is on the outside looking in.
