Supposed "Off" Week for FBS Turns into BCS Mayhem
Raise your hand if you foresaw Iowa State winning in OT against Oklahoma State on Friday night.
Put your hand down.
Raise your hand if you foresaw USC leading Oregon 38-14 in the second half, then Oregon storming back to within a field goal of tying the game at 38-38 and taking the game to overtime...and missing it.
Put your hand down.
Raise your hand if you saw Robert Griffin III of No. 22 Baylor—a team which has never beaten Oklahoma—silencing No. 5 Oklahoma in a last-minute play of regulation?
Put your hand down. You didn't.
This week was supposedly the one week where nothing of importance was going to happen.
All five top-ranked teams—LSU, Oklahoma State, Alabama, Oregon and Oklahoma—played teams ranked 22nd or worse.
Only two came out victorious.
The BCS is going to come out tomorrow night, and not one analyst has any definitive clue about who will be ranked behind the two victorious LSU and Alabama squads.
Throw in a No. 7 Clemson team losing in a blowout, and you have BCS mayhem.
Throw in Brandon Weeden with three interceptions and LaMichael James with only 74 yards and you have a Heisman race that is just as wide open as the day the season started.
This sportswriter is at a loss for words over what happened this weekend.
Enjoy mayhem and one of the greatest college football seasons in history.
