Why Mike McQueary Should Never Coach Football Again
Penn State assistant coach Mike McQueary made an enormous error, allegedly, in the scandal at State College. It’s not what he did but it’s what he didn’t do. Because of his colossal error, McQueary shouldn’t be garnered the opportunity, let alone the privilege to coach another game in college football.
I understand that he loves the game of football and probably doesn’t want to leave the profession, but if I was looking to hire an assistant coach, he would be the last person I would reach out to. In fact, I wouldn’t even look in his direction.
The investigation is still ongoing, and we don’t know all that’s true. I’m not here to dispute the truth, but the original story – the one of him not coming to the aid of an innocent child who is being raped (allegedly) by Jerry Sandusky – is all I need to know about the type of person he is.
According to reports, McQueary never took this situation to the police. “A spokesperson for Penn State's campus police told CBS News that they never received a sex abuse report from McQueary. Separately, State College Police Chief Thomas R. King told CBS News that his department has no record of ever being contacted by McQueary regarding alleged sex abuse.
The university also has its own police force. Penn State administrators said they were looking into whether McQueary contacted campus police. A university official also told CBS News Tuesday that, to her knowledge, no police report was filed.”
He never once filed a report, not even to the university police. It’s like you seeing a fire happening when nobody is around and not dialing 911. Why would you allow harmful, life-altering, disturbing sights to continue happening when you have the opportunity to make a difference?
It’s unforgivable.
I want loyalty, I want respect, I want somebody I could trust. The youth of the world comes first. I know all I need to know about McQueary with this incident if the truth stands pact.
He should not receive another coaching job at the college football level. I could settle with him being a scout, or something else at a smaller level, but on the sidelines, in the locker room, absolutely not.
