Boston Bruins: Why the Win Streak Will Continue
The Boston Bruins pushed their win streak to six games on Tuesday after defeating the New Jersey Devils 4-3. The Bruins have outscored their opponents 34-13 over this six-game stretch, and there is no way their momentum stops anytime soon.
The Bruins are starting to creep up in the Eastern Conference to the eighth spot, and they need to keep this win streak going to leapfrog over the teams higher than them in order to make the playoffs.
The Bruins could very well see a 10-game winning streak at this rate.
Goaltending
1 of 5Tim Thomas and Tuukka Rask have been great this season and when either is in net the Bruins have a chance to win.
Thomas has a 2.09 GAA which is seventh best in the NHL. He also has a .927 save percentage which is 11th best. Rask has a 2.63 GAA which is great for a backup and a .908 save percentage in only five games this season.
Rask is a fortified backup and could get a start somewhere else, but he is the perfect fit to give Thomas a day off when he needs it.
Team Chemistry
2 of 5The Bruins are clicking on all cylinders, and their team cohesiveness is an asset that a playoff team possesses down the stretch. They already have that unity.
Their offensive is scoring at will on whatever goalies they face. The defense is stopping other teams on the power play and on other scoring opportunities. The Bruins are even playing the puck well in the neutral zone.
This type of full team effort is what won them the Stanley Cup and will help move them up the Eastern Conference ladder and a double digit win streak.
Tyler Seguin
3 of 5Tyler Seguin is having an incredible start to the 2011-12 season with 11 goals and nine assists for a total of 20 points in 16 games. He leads the NHL in plus/minus with a plus-15. He is third in goals scored ind 10th in total points.
His sophomore season is only this much better because of his increased minutes due to the Marc Savard injury that will keep him out the entire season. This playing time is great for the Bruins, and he is on pace to have more than 50 goals in the 2011-2012 season.
This kind of production will only help the Bruins with winning four more games in a row.
Stanley Cup Hangover Done
4 of 5The Bruins seemed to be playing on tired legs for the first 10 regular season games starting the 2011-12 NHL season, but now it is the young legs that have increased excitement for the Bruins in the last six games.
The Stanley Cup hangover has affected many teams over the last couple of decades and sometimes the teams can't even make it into the playoffs. The Bruins do not want their success to end and have stepped up to increase morale of the team and team unity.
With this win streak, the Stanley Cup hangover will leave their heads, and it will be time to focus on their goals for the 2011-2012 season; whatever those may be.
Power Play
5 of 5The power play has been sort of productive for the Bruins in the last six games. The power play is at 16.7 percent for the entire 2011-12 season and that should increase with time as they are ninth in the Eastern Conference and have played well on the power play over the last six games.
The Bruins penalty kill is at 86.4 percent, which is sixth in the Eastern Conference. This will be great when they face teams like the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Washington Capitals who have productive power plays at over 20 percent.
