Pacquiao vs. Marquez 3: Why a Rematch Isn't Necessary Between the Welterweights
After another controversial decision involving a bout between Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao, many, including Marquez, are calling for a potential fourth matchup between the two welterweights.
The two fighters have taken each other on three times now after their November 14th meeting, with Pacquiao taking two by way of split and majority decision and the other match ending in a draw.
While the records show that Pacquiao carries the obvious edge over Marquez, it could still be argued that it was actually Marquez who deserved possibly two of the matchups including this past one and the bout that ended in a draw.
Though Marquez is overreacting to the latest majority decision, it is still believed that there is no clear discrepancy of who the better fighter is between these two. All three fights have come down to the wire and could have very well gone either way if not for Pacquiao having a few rounds where he had clear advantages as opposed to Marquez who was just barely skating by Manny in every round in his round wins.
A Marquez and Pacquiao bout would be pleasant for a fourth time considering that both fighters have been nearly equal as far as talent goes, but it may be time to lay it to rest and give the edge to the boxer who has won two of their three fights.
A fourth fight would help decide who the better fighter is, but what happens if they get into yet another close match that features even more controversy at the end?
The two are equivalent and it might just be best to leave it at that before it gets out of hand with a fourth matchup that's supposedly needed to decide who the better fighter is between the Mexican and Filipino.
Either way, it might not exactly be a fair fight due to the fact that Marquez will be nearing 39 years old by the time the bout occurs.
It's time to lay this one to rest and hope that Pacquiao is willing to accept Floyd Mayweather's latest challenge and fight in the bout scheduled for May 5th of next year.
While a fourth matchup between Marquez and Pacquiao might clean a few things up, a fight is needed between the two proven best pound-for-pound fighters in the world as opposed to a fourth bout between a fighter who has already won two of the three meetings and a disgruntled boxer who can't seem to get a break.
