Jerry Sandusky: When Will Enough be Enough for Penn State's 2012 Recruits?
When the sex scandal involving Jerry Sandusky was released to the public, we all knew that this would hurt not only Penn State but the football program as well. The once prestigious program would forever have a black eye, the football program would be blacklisted for several years and it would effect future recruiting plans.
So far, what we all expected hasn't really occurred.
While most of that has happened, recruiting has not been a problem. For now, at least.
For example, the father of top recruit Noah Spence has said his son is still considering the school.
"“We still have a great deal of respect for Penn State, a great deal of respect for Joe Paterno and [defensive line coach] Larry Johnson and a great deal of respect for Coach [Tom] Bradley [the Lions' defensive coordinator],” Greg Spence told PennLive.com.
“The allegations are horrendous and I was very upset to read any allegations like that, that had Penn State’s name tie to it, but we just have to sit back and let things play out.”
"
The father of linebacker Nyeem Wartman said his son has the same feelings.
""He's still committed. I talked to him the other day about it. It's not a good situation up there right now, but he's true to Penn State. He likes the school and the education he's going to get, and he was happy with his decision," Howanitz said. "We don't know what's going to happen."
"
Derek Dowrey also said he is still committed to Penn State.
""I definitely had to weigh my options," Dowrey said. "But, when I sat to think about it I still wanted to go to Penn State because I think it's still a great program. They still have great facilities, great academics and great fan support."
"
Penn State says all 16 of their commitments have said they are still on board to join the university.
However, you have to wonder what will be enough for these recruits to make a final decision? They may say they're still committed to Penn State, but they have to be having second thoughts. Any normal person would.
Is more evidence going to need to come out? Will Sandusky need to be found guilty or innocent? It's going to be interesting to see just how committed these players are when this scandal opens up a little bit.
