Penn State Scandal: Nothing Makes Sense in Downfall of Penn State
At some point, I am hoping to find something that makes sense in regards to the Jerry Sandusky scandal. It would be nice to find evidence that there is hope of good and normalcy amidst this filth. I just don't think I will find it.
We were all taken aback with the sock to the stomach when the Jerry Sandusky scandal broke. A couple weeks later, we are all still shaking our heads.
There was the interview by Jerry Sandusky on Rock Center with Brian Williams. The interview seemed to cement Sandusky's guilt with those that merely speculated it before.
Sandusky came off as creepy and simply guilty. The fact that his lawyer allowed him to be made available by phone makes the act all the more puzzling.
Then came his lawyer, Joe Amendola, claiming that a victim would come to Sandusky's aid and say that no sexual activity ever took place.
Then came reports that State College police never received complaints about the wrongdoing from Mike McQueary, the Penn State receivers coach that allegedly saw Sandusky rape a boy in 2002. Emails that have McQueary asserting he told police would then be rendered false.
Another oddity is the fact the McQueary played in Sandusky's golf tournament as little as three months after the alleged rape.
Head scratching can turn into a reflex in a story like this. Every single fact or rumor that is drummed up doesn't seem to make sense to normal folks that just wouldn't ever think of doing things in this matter.
After seeing something so vile, you would think that McQueary would never want to see Sandusky's face again.
Knowing how he would come off, you would think Amendola would put a gag in Sandusky's mouth. Welcome to the sickest circus in the world, where nothing makes sense and every last bit that comes out is stranger than the next.
