Mike McQueary Interview: Why CBS is America's New Punching Bag
LOL, WTF, Haha, ROFL.
Those are four options that were sufficient to text the higher ups at CBS today.
There “exclusive” interview with Penn State assistant coach Mike McQueary was supposed to be an unforgettable follow up to Monday night’s highly impressive Bob Costas interview with Jerry Sandusky.
What else can you say about something that was so hyped up, only to be massively disappointed 24 seconds later?
Creditable CBS/ HBO Sports contributor Armen Keteyian built up some serious hype on Twitter earlier in the day by talking about the interview he had for viewers on the 6:30 p.m. national news:
This sparked heated debates about what exactly McQueary was willing to concede. Well, if you switched your T.V. over to CBS at about 6:32 p.m. then you were too late.
Here is the entire transcript:
Keteyian: Do you have any idea when you might be ready to talk?
McQueary: If this process doesn't play out, I just don't have anything else to say.
Keteyian: OK, and then just one last thing...Just describe your emotions right now.
McQueary: Uh, all over the place. Just kinda, uh, shaken.
Keteyian: Crazy?
McQueary: Crazy, ha.
Keteyian: And you said, what? Like a...
McQueary: Snow globe.
Keteyian: Like a snow globe.
McQueary: Yes sir.
So essentially, all we learned is that McQueary is familiar with snow globes.
The backlash was rough on Twitter. Why would you hype something up so much for such a weak outcome?
It really hurts the credibility of Keteyian and the entire CBS News organization. Clearly they were desperately trying to one-up NBC’s impressive work and they failed miserably.
Predictably, Keteyian felt he did nothing wrong:
Keteyian didn’t technically lie, but he certainly deceived everybody. Have we gotten to the point with the Penn State scandal where you have to hype up a “no comment” clip?
No, we aren’t. So please, CBS, don’t do that again.
