Manny Pacquiao: How Bob Arum Is Ruining Pac-Man's Legacy

Eric BowmanNov 15, 2011

Manny Pacquiao is arguably the best boxer in the world today, but we won't know the real truth unless he fights Floyd Mayweather Jr., which may not happen thanks to Bob Arum.

The most anticipated fight in the history of boxing, Pacquiao vs. Mayweather has had fans salivating for years, wondering if the two will ever meet in the ring.

Unfortunately, recent news has surfaced indicating that the mega fight may not happen anytime soon. That's not a good sign considering both boxers are getting up there in age. Of course, boxing fans would watch these two fight even if they were 60 years old.

If these two don't fight within the coming year, the chances they ever fight are extremely small, which would tarnish both boxers' legacy.

It would hurt Pacquiao more because he doesn't have that undefeated record like Mayweather.

Dan Rafael of ESPN has learned that Arum doesn't want to pursue a fight between Pac-Man and Pretty Boy Floyd.

According to Rafael, he was informed of this information from Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer and Leonard Ellerbe, one of Mayweather's advisers.

"We have been informed that Bob Arum is not interested in pursuing a fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao at this time," Schaefer said.

All of this appears to be true, as Arum said earlier that "we are pursuing a fourth fight with Marquez. As far as doing anything definitively, we aren't ready to do anything definitively."

This is absolutely absurd.

I understand there have been troubles between both parties in trying to work out a fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather, but they would be stupid not to make this happen.

The boxing world is of course outraged at this, and Oscar De La Hoya in particular tweeted his thoughts on the matter.

It certainly looks that way, which blows my mind.

A fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather would bring in a lot of money for both parties involved, as it would be the biggest boxing fight in ages.

Even if Pacquiao lost to Mayweather, his career would be in better shape. It's better to know who would win than to forever debate what could have been.

It's time boxing fans get what they want, but Arum is going to screw it all up, and leave an empty hole in Pacquiao's legacy.
