Week 11 Waiver Wire: Alex Smith and Top Replacements for Matt Schaub
Matt Schaub, one of the most productive quarterbacks in the NFL, is out for the season, devastating both the Houston Texans and fantasy owners who relied on him.
All hope is not lost for Schaub owners, however. There are still plenty of quarterbacks on the waiver wire that can provide points as you push for the playoffs.
Here are five quick-fix quarterback options for fantasy owners.
Alex Smith
1 of 5Next Week: vs. Arizona
While Alex Smith has obviously improved, his fantasy stock has, for the most part, not.
The 49ers are clearly a run-first team.
But the Niners' pass game is quietly becoming more dangerous.
Smith was allowed to let loose against the Giants, and he did so to great effect, throwing for 242 yards.
With a healthy Braylon Edwards and against a poor Arizona pass defense, Smith will continue to look downfield.
Smith is by no means a great fantasy QB, but he should be effective in a pinch.
John Skelton
2 of 5Next Week: at San Francisco
As of now, John Skelton is the Cardinals' starting QB for Week 11.
He certainly has impressed in his first two starts of 2011, winning both and torching the Eagles for more than 300 yards.
If the 49ers defense has a weakness, it's their secondary.
Skelton has a chance to score points hooking up with Larry Fitzgerald.
Christian Ponder
3 of 5Next Week: vs. Oakland
Rookie Christian Ponder looked shaky against the Green Bay Packers, but he should have a much easier time against the Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders pass defense had been below average, giving up 16 passing touchdowns.
Ponder should be able to add a couple to that number at home.
Sam Bradford
4 of 5Next Week: vs. Seattle
Injuries and all, Sam Bradford has been a disappointment this season, only throwing four touchdowns.
However, he still has more upside than almost anyone on the waiver wire.
With an easy schedule coming up and Brandon Lloyd becoming a threat at wideout, now is the best time to pick up Bradford.
Andy Dalton
5 of 5Next Week: at Ravens
If Andy Dalton isn't owned in your league, he should be.
Red Rifle has surprised everyone with his fantastic play in his rookie campaign.
He also has a legitimate deep threat in fellow rookie wideout A.J Green.
Dalton has a tough Week 11 matchup against the Ravens, but he is a great option for a QB-desperate fantasy owner down the home stretch.
