NFL Week 11 Picks: Predicting Teams Due for a Loss

Andrea HangstNov 15, 2011

Generally, two NFL teams enter a contest on seemingly equal footing, though only one emerges victorious. Predicting that winner isn't the easiest task, with upsets and surprises occurring every week.

But that doesn't stop me or anyone else from trying. On the following slides, I detail five teams who are certain to fall in their respective Week 11 contests.

Denver Broncos (vs. New York Jets)

1 of 5

The Denver Broncos found a formula that worked against the Kansas City Chiefs, rushing 55 times while quarterback Tim Tebow attempted a mere eight passes, completing two.

While read-option plays and a single, high-yield pass for a touchdown might be enough against a team like the Chiefs, the scorned New York Jets won't be as simple a task.

Despite setbacks, the Jets are still one of the better teams in the NFL.

Tebow's Broncos don't have much of a chance to pull off yet another week of heroics and snag the unlikely win.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (at Green Bay Packers)

2 of 5

The juggernaut that is the Green Bay Packers continues to roll, crushing all teams in their path to their second Super Bowl in as many years, and up next it's the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who will face them and fall.

Good teams, poor teams, the Packers have beaten them all so far.

The Buccaneers are somewhere in between, a middling team unable to meet its considerable potential or match the momentum they managed to build in 2010.

But middling won't beat the undefeated Packers.

Expect more of the same—Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers takes to the air, dismantling the Tampa Bay defense, while the Buccaneers' best offensive efforts fall short.

Cincinnati Bengals (at Baltimore Ravens)

3 of 5

The Bengals have quietly sneaked into the playoff picture this year on the merits of their surprising, rookie-led offense and tough defense, in concert with what has been—up to now—an easy schedule.

With a loss last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Bengals' inexperience has been exposed.

Heading to Baltimore to take on the up-and-down Ravens, who followed up a win against Pittsburgh with an embarrassing loss to the Seattle Seahawks, they'll have another tough time against a veteran squad.

The Ravens are yet again out for redemption and should find it Sunday in front of their hometown crowd, thanks to their own bruising defense.

Arizona Cardinals (at San Francisco 49ers)

4 of 5

Like the Green Bay Packers, the San Francisco 49ers have defeated all comers (save for one) so far this season, and lead the NFC West with as many total wins than the remaining three teams in their division have combined.

Though the Cardinals had an uplifting win over the Philadelphia Eagles last week, that momentum won't continue this Sunday when they face one of the league's best teams.

The Niners have come from seemingly nowhere to become the second-best team in the league.

They got there by not dropping to teams like Arizona, and they'll stay that way when they win this week.

Philadelphia Eagles (at New York Giants)

5 of 5

The Philadelphia Eagles' hopes for the playoffs are all but dashed, and when they meet the NFC East-leading New York Giants this Sunday night, their chances to see the postseason will be reduced to nothing.

There's little chance that the Eagles can pull out a win against a team so dominant on offense and defense, especially without quarterback Michael Vick on the field.

While one never knows which Eagles squad will be on the field from week to week, that inconsistency is just what the Giants will take advantage of this Sunday, and the one-time "dream team" will fall to 3-7.
