Mike McQueary: Changing Stories Will Doom Jerry Sandusky Case
One of the key witnesses in the Jerry Sandusky sex scandal is Mike McQueary, who testified to a grand jury that he saw Sandusky sexually abusing a young boy in a shower back in 2002. Now McQueary is starting to change the story that we have heard for the last week.
When the grand jury testimony was first released and McQueary's statement came out, there was outrage because he did nothing to stop the abuse going on and, instead, left to call his father to tell him about what he saw.
Now, McQueary is saying that he did stop Sandusky from abusing a child and that "the truth is not out there fully."
From NBC News correspondent Peter Alexander:
Why wasn't the truth in the grand jury testimony? By changing his story, McQueary destroys his credibility as a witness and this case has the potential to blow up as a result.
If McQueary withheld information from a grand jury, which it appears he did, then he deserves to be prosecuted. He either did something or did nothing; he can't have it both ways, but that is what it sounds like he wants.
Maybe there is more information that McQueary has that will come out, but to change the story at this point sounds like he heard all the criticism hurled at him and wanted to improve his standing with the public and possibly save his job.
There are a lot of moving parts in this case, but McQueary's testimony was one of the critical parts of the grand jury testimony. Now that he is altering his story, there are a lot of questions that he needs to answer.
We have heard from Sandusky already, so what is keeping McQueary from making some sort of statement right now? He needs to tell his side of the story and be honest and clear about what exactly it was that he saw and what he did to stop it.
