Jerry Sandusky Interview: Twitter Reacts to Sandusky's Interview with Bob Costas

Richard LangfordNov 14, 2011

In an exclusive interview with Bob Costas that will air on "Rock Center" Monday night at 10 p.m./9 p.m. CT on NBC, former Penn State coach and alleged child molester Jerry Sandusky said, "I shouldn't have showered with those kids."

Portions of the interview were released in print form on rockcenter.msnbc.msn.com.

Sandusky maintained his innocence, but he also had many statements—like the one above—that are only adding fuel to the fire.

The following comments are as well. Sandusky, from the interview:

"

I could say that I have done some of those things. I have horsed around with kids I have showered after workouts. I have hugged them and I have touched their legs without intent of sexual contact.

I enjoy being around children. I enjoy their enthusiasm. I just have a good time with them.

"

This has not surprisingly sent the Twitterverse buzzing. Here are some of the comments regarding this interview, and we'll be updating this throughout the night. The most recent updates will appear at the top.

One thing is abundantly clear as you scan through the twitter comments or this article, and that is people seem to be in universal agreement with what this tweeter expresses here.

This interview and this subject is understandably too much for some to stomach.

The last statement of that tweet is one almost everyone would agree with. And that is part of the reason why these allegations are so disturbing. Sandusky was supposed to be protecting and helping kids. That was the point of his charity.

These allegations are difficult for anyone to swallow. It is especially hard for parents. That is apparent in this tweet from Jay Glazer.

And in this tweet:

It also has brought thoughts of violence from people who are typically passive.

The parallels between this spectacle and the Michael Jackson case are mounting.

It is in comments like this that is leading people to this conclusion.

Sympathy for Sandusky is understandably non-existent. That may not be anymore apparent than it is in this tweet.

It shouldn't come as any surprise that Bob Costas efforts are being more favorably received than Sandusky's.

Eric Stangel also had thoughts along the same lines.

This tweeter is at a complete loss at to what legal counsel would all Sandusky to do this interview.

Jason Whitlock has a notion of which legal counsel would allow this.

Todd Jones adds some troubling insight about the surroundings of the Sandusky residence.

Thoughts of instant karma do not disturb this tweeter.

As you'll read below, there is some serious concern over the abilities and judgement of Sandusky's lawyer. Apparently, judgement is not a strength of this particular practitioner of law.

So appearing on a national interview does not seem like the wisest choice for Jerry. However, as Eric Stengel, of the Late Show with David Letterman, points out we probably shouldn't be surprised.

This tweet does a solid job of pointing out the obvious.

At least one tweeter is not surprised that Sandusky is on NBC, but they may be a little surprised of the circumstances.

Leave it to the peeps on twitter to point out the positive of the situation to Sandusky.

Meanwhile, the fact that Sandusky just nonchalantly tosses out the fact that he showers with boys like it isn't incriminating is disturbing. This tweet sums that up fairly well.

Bomani Jones is not convinced that this interview was the best legal tactic for Sandusky.

Jones isn't the only one questioning the wisdom of this move. This tweet indicates that Sandusky has done himself no favors with his comments.

Dan Wetzel also couldn't escape the obvious horse connections.

Meanwhile Albert Breer is just in plain shock.

That's not all Sandusky's lawyer is saying. Per SI.com's Jimmy Traina, Sandusky's attorney also had this to say:

Judy Battista, an NFL writer for The New York Times, doesn't sound very sure Sandusky's reps should have allowed him to speak at all:

While you can rest assured that the Sandusky interview is going to be viewed by a great many people, some esteemed media members aren't so sure they're going to be able to take it.

Here's this from The Record's Tara Sullivan:
