Jerry Sandusky: Fallen Coach Admits to Showering with Boys in NBC Interview
"I shouldn't have showered with those kids," Jerry Sandusky told Bob Costas in an exclusive interview that will air on Rock Center Monday night at 10 p.m. ET/9 p.m. CT on NBC.
While Costas got the former Penn State coach to admit that, Sandusky stopped short of admitting guilt.
"I say that I am innocent of those charges," Sandusky said.
This led to Costas asking him pointblank, "Are you a pedophile?" to which Sandusky responded "No."
Sandusky expanded on his answer by saying, "I could say that I have done some of those things. I have horsed around with kids I have showered after workouts. I have hugged them and I have touched their legs without intent of sexual contact."
He also added, "I enjoy being around children. I enjoy their enthusiasm. I just have a good time with them."
Sandusky is currently free on a $100,000 bond. He was charged earlier this month with 40 counts of sexually abusing eight boys.
The results of this scandal have rocked Penn State University, and have led to the firing of coach Joe Paterno and University president Graham Spanier.
Athletic director Tim Curley is on adminstrative leave, and senior vice president for finance and business Gary Schultz has reentered retirement; both have been indicted by the grand jury.
Assistant coach Mike McQueary, who said he saw Sandusky in the Penn State showers with a boy, was put on paid administrative leave Friday as well.
