Pacquiao vs Marquez Results: Will Controversial Outcome Force Investigation?
Manny Pacquiao was awarded a majority win over Juan Manuel Marquez on Saturday. For the third time, Dinamita felt that he was robbed in front of millions of people.
Actually, this robbery might have been the most obvious of the three to anyone who watched the fight. Will the ending force an investigation? It should—but it won’t.
Manny Pacquiao Won Based on CompuBox
Manny Pacquiao deserved the win based on CompuBox number. This reason is enough to avoid any investigation.
Every Pac-Man fan has been saying that. However, when Marquez won both earlier fights based on CompuBox numbers, the same Pac-Man fans were saying that numbers were irrelevant.
Actually, Pacquiao won the first two fights because he seemed more dominant in the ring.
Is there any logic in that? In my opinion, the most dominant boxer on Saturday was Juan Manuel Marquez. He landed the cleaner punches and was in control.
Still, Pacquiao dominated based on numbers. He threw 578 punches vs. 435 for Marquez. He also landed almost 40 more punches than Marquez. He landed 30 percent of his shots, while Marquez landed 32 percent of his.
In the jab department, Pacquiao threw over 100 more jabs than Marquez and he connected on 21 more of them.
As for the power punches, it was pretty close. Pac-Man landed 17 more punches than Marquez (117 vs. 100).
HBO Panel Had a 8-4 Card for Manny Pacquiao
HBO panel had a 8-4 card for Manny Pacquiao. They must have been the only ones in the world—along with the insane judge who gave a 116-112 card—to come up with this result.
Is it possible that HBO needed to have this kind of card in order to manage the public perception? Most people saw this fight on HBO, a supposedly trustworthy source. Therefore, if they presented a winning card, most people should believe that Pac-Man won, right?
The HBO panel was dead wrong.
According to RingTV, twelve boxing writers were ringside. Six of them had Marquez as the winner. The other half had it as a draw. None of the writers had Pacquiao as a winner. Ron Borges from RingTV.com also scored it as a draw.
Freddie Roach, Manny’s trainer, said that he thought the fight would end up as a draw. Still, the HBO panel thought that Pacquiao won twice more rounds than Marquez. This is quite intriguing.
However, the fact that HBO panel had it as an easy Pac-Man win is enough to stop any investigation. Also, I’m shocked that Pacquiao had the guts to say that he clearly won the fight.
Really? Then, why was your coach stating that he expected a draw?
Blame Marquez's Corner
Marquez did deserve to win this fight. However, how nuts are the people in his corner? With two rounds left, they told him that he was leading on the scorecards. It was a big mistake to tell him this.
Marquez had been robbed once—possibly twice—before this fight. If you're Marquez, don’t you think that the judges will again favour Pacquiao?
On the other side, Freddie Roach was urging Pacquiao to knock Marquez out. Basically, both trainers saw Marquez winning this fight at some point, right?
A lot of people will blame Marquez's corner to explain his loss.
Boxing World Doesn’t Want Any Investigation
The boxing world wants Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather. That’s it.
The Filipino boxing icon is known all over the world. Juan Manuel Marquez is 38 and not as popular on the worldwide boxing scene. It was necessary for Pacquiao to win this fight in order to face Mayweather.
Everyone will benefit from the Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight—especially HBO itself.
It’s not the first time there has been controversy in boxing. For once, though, even the general fan could see how obvious it was. If they want to set-up Mayweather vs. Pacquiao, nobody can stop them.
And, for the record, Top Rank had already decided to protect Pacquiao if it had to go to the scorecards. They made sure that their soldier Glenn Trowbridge was part of the three judges.
If you don’t believe me, have a quick look at the history of this judge who scored it 116-112. You won’t be surprised by the score afterwards!
