Pacquiao vs. Marquez 3: Pac-Man Will Lose If He Stupidly Fights Marquez Again

Alex KayNov 14, 2011

Manny Pacquiao would be moronic to fight Juan Manuel Marquez for a fourth time.

Do you want to know why? Because he would not win.

Pacquiao reportedly trained the hardest he ever has in his life in order to “kill” Marquez in their third bout, but he barely got the decision in a fight that really could have gone either way.

As a huge favorite, Pacquiao was lucky to have pulled out the decision because of his aggression and number of punches thrown. Marquez honestly could have won if he wasn’t given awful advice from his trainer Nacho Beristain.

According to Dan Rafael of ESPN.com, Beristain told Marquez he was winning in the crucial 12th round.

I can’t put it any better than Rafael did.

"

Now when you have fought two controversial fights with Pacquiao already and are entering the final round of another obviously close fight, shouldn't Beristain have told Marquez he had to win the round? Better safe than sorry, right?

"

Absolutely, Dan.

What was Marquez thinking? Had he gone and been aggressive in the latter rounds of the fight, he had a serious shot of winning the thing.

While Marquez was never going to knock Pacquiao out, and that was clear from the beginning, his counter-punching style was also not going to get respect from the judges. Had he gone on the attack and worked Pacquiao a bit, he could have at the very least forced a draw.

Now that Pacquiao has won the third bout between these two men, it would be insane for him to go for a fourth. Pacquiao has won two, and the first was a draw, so he has nothing left to prove. It would be embarrassing for him to lose.

Sure, there will be controversy. There are legions of boxing enthusiasts that may not agree with the judges’ decision, and it will be highly debated for years. But the outcome will not change.

Pacquiao should now worry about fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. in what would easily be the fight of the century. It would also give him a chance to prove he still is easily the best in the world should he overcome what would be his greatest opponent ever.

Everyone would forget about how Marquez may have been the better boxer in the last fight the minute Mayweather versus Pacquiao is announced.
