Manny Pacquiao: Is Prize Fight with Floyd Mayweather Worth $75 Million Apiece?
Manny Pacquiao is one of the biggest draws in boxing history, and there is talk that the super fight with Floyd Mayweather could yield each man almost $75 million dollars apiece.
Now that Juan Manuel Marquez is out of the way (barely), there is nothing standing in the way of the fight everyone wants, aside from Mayweather's massive ego.
In what will be without question the biggest boxing match in the history of the sport, Mayweather and Pac-Man will stand to make more in one fight than most fighters in the world make combined in their careers.
Worth it or not for the people ordering the fight, with that much money potentially on the line, the only reasons one of these men wouldn’t participate is out of pure fear of what a loss could do to their legacy.
The Guardian breaks down the winners and losers in the boxing world coming off Manny’s controversial victory:
"This was good news for Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, who stand to earn upwards of $75m (£47m) each when the politicking ends and they finally step into the same ring, and it was good news for the promoter Bob Arum, who will help himself to a share of an eight-figure gross. But it was terrible news for Juan Manuel Márquez, who for the third time of asking acquitted himself brilliantly against his Filipino opponent and for the third time found himself on the wrong end of a verdict that provoked outrage and incredulity in equal measure after failing to win the WBO welterweight title.
"
The idea of a man making $75 million in a matter of minutes absolutely blows my mind, but if people are willing to pay that kind of money to get this fight off the ground, so be it.
Think of the PPV sales on a show of this magnitude, and just how much money would be made off merchandise and ticket sales.
While $150 million to the two participants of this fight seems extravagant, it’s because it is.
It seems that’s the only way to get this to happen, though I believe the PPV sales and everything else would still allow all parties involved to make their fair share of cash.
