BCS Rankings 2011: Top Candidates To Unseat Oklahoma State
The 2012 BCS National Championship game is far from being determined.
In the latest BCS projections, No. 1 LSU and No. 2 Oklahoma State hold sizable advantages over the rest of the field.
The Tigers are clearly the favorites to win out, while nobody is too sure about OSU. Sure the offense is one of the top five in the nation, but can their defense get stops when it matters most?
That question has yet to be answered, and that's why they are vulnerable. Here are three teams that can skate past the Cowboys if they fail to win the final three games on their schedule.
No. 3 Alabama
It's not fair—the Crimson Tide shouldn't get another crack at LSU, but the computers don't care. 'Bama has played a strong schedule and would jump the Cowboys in a flash if they were to lose.
Considering the Crimson Tide only have Georgia Southern and No. 24 Auburn left on the slate, they aren't losing another game.
Let's hope this scenario doesn't pan out. Nick Saban's crew had their chance against LSU, and blew it at home. It's time for another team to get a crack at it.
Speaking of rematches...
No. 4 Oregon
The Ducks were beat by 13 against LSU on a neutral field, and they don't deserve a rematch either. Oregon is fresh off a convincing 53-30 thrashing of No. 9 Stanford on the road, and have won all nine of their games by at least two touchdowns.
In other words...the Ducks have been extremely dominant since Week 2.
If the Cowboys lose, Oregon's strength of schedule should be enough to push them over the top, especially with USC still on the slate.
No. 5 Oklahoma
It all comes down to December 3rd.
The Sooners will be traveling to Stillwater with a potential BCS championship berth on the line in what appears to be the de facto Big 12 title game. The Sooners slip up against Texas Tech has been partially forgotten by the computers because of their extremely tough strength of schedule.
With a game against No. 22 Baylor also still on the slate, the Sooners are going to be sitting pretty if they win the remainder of their games. I think the SOS is enough to propel them past every other one-loss team.
But remember OSU, none of this matters as long as you take care of business.
No pressure.
