BCS Bowl Predictions: Houston on Crash Course for Fiesta Bowl vs. Oklahoma
The more this season has progressed, the more the Houston Cougars have resembled Boise State, a program with a soft schedule that could still make a BCS bowl game with an undefeated record.
Little did the Cougars know, they may surpass the Broncos this season.
After Boise State lost to TCU on Saturday, and Houston defeated Tulane 73-17, it is the Cougars who may capture a spot in the Fiesta Bowl against Oklahoma.
With Boise State's latest loss dropping the team to 8-1, Houston now looks like a more likely contender for a BCS bowl, with a 10-0 record and two more games against SMU and Tulsa.
SMU has proven to be a good team this season, but if the Cougars can get past them, they should have no problem disposing of Tulsa.
As for Oklahoma, the Sooners would likely get planted in the Fiesta Bowl if they lost a close battle to Oklahoma State at the end of the regular season, which I have them doing.
Who knew, at the start of the season, that Houston would become the new Boise State and Boise State would potentially slip out of a BCS spot?
Led by top quarterback Case Keenum (37 TDs, three INTs), the Cougars have stormed past their foes this season, albeit against meager competition.
As for the Broncos, it marks the second straight year in which they've approached the end of the season, only to lose a heartbreaker.
It looks likely that they are headed to the Poinsettia Bowl this season, as the MWC champion, to face the team that beat them last season, Nevada.
After winning five of their first six games, Houston's next foe, SMU, has lost three of its last four, including a 24-17 dud against Navy in Week 11.
