BCS Rankings: Why Alabama's Win over Arkansas Won't Save Tide from Razorbacks
The No. 3 Alabama Crimson Tide (9-1) and the No. 8 Arkansas Razorbacks (9-1) both came out on top of their SEC opponents on Saturday, keeping each team's conference title hopes alive for another week.
But regardless of what Alabama does against Georgia Southern and Auburn in the next two weeks, Arkansas will have the only shot at the last laugh.
Despite suffering a blowout loss to Alabama in Tuscaloosa back in September, the Razorbacks still have a matchup with No. 1 LSU (10-0) on their schedule, which means they control their own destiny as far as berth in the BCS title game is concerned.
Arkansas will visit Baton Rouge the day after Thanksgiving to pull of an unthinkable victory on the road over the nation's best team, which will then create a logjam atop the SEC West Division.
One-loss Arkansas will be tied with one-time losers Alabama and LSU, but which team would get the edge?
It would come down to a series of confusing tiebreakers, but still Arkansas would be better off than if they lose to the Tigers on Nov. 25.
Still, like in college football overtime, Alabama has had its shot on offense and failed to score against LSU, so enter Arkansas with a shot at busting the BCS picture.
Much to the chagrin of Tide fans everywhere, the team Alabama beat by 24 points two months ago is in a better position to play for a national championship than Nick Saban's crew.
Playoffs anyone?
