Pacquiao vs. Marquez 3: Marquez Can't Blame Judges for Loss

Josh SchochNov 13, 2011

Juan Manuel Marquez can't blame the judges for his loss to Manny Pacquiao last night, Marquez is now 0-2-1 against Pac-Man in their three fights, and he can't say he was robbed.

While the fight last night was incredibly close and could have gone either way, Pacquiao seemed the better decision.

Marquez started well, punishing Pac-Man for the first six rounds, but he faded after that. Pacquiao came to life and starting fighting well as Marquez's 38-year-old stamina let him down.

Pacquiao stormed back, taking over the fight at the end. He was losing heading into the final round, but he impressed the judges and they gave him a win (116-112, 115-113, 114-114).

Marquez had his chances to end the fight in the early rounds, or to at least build up a lead that Pac-Man could not touch.

Marquez did neither, and it came back to haunt him. He had a weak, rusty Pacquiao right in front of him, there for the taking, but he did not capitalize. He was then pushed around enough so that the judges ruled in Pac-Man's favor.

The judges clearly felt that Pacquiao's come back was more important than his slow start, and they awarded him a victory.

Marquez can't blame the judges for this loss because he should have put Pac-Man away earlier in the fight. He had all the tools: 12 additional pounds of muscle, a powerful punch, and a slower, weaker Pacquiao.

Marquez should have won this fight easily, but it slipped through his fingers, and he has no one to blame but himself for this humiliating defeat. While the fans may have thought he won, he clearly did not, and he cannot talk about being robbed. This was his fault.
