Manny Pacquiao's Controversial Win Will Make Mayweather Anxious for Shot at Him
As Floyd Mayweather watched Manny Pacquiao win a controversial decision over Juan Manuel Marquez Saturday night, the undefeated champion's desire to face Pac-Man must have grown even larger.
You could easily argue that Pacquiao should have lost against Marquez Saturday night in Las Vegas, and when the decision was announced the fans showed their disapproval.
With Mayweather recently saying he will fight on May 5 of next year, many people have predicted that Pacquiao will be his opponent for that fight in Las Vegas.
Mayweather's adviser Leonard Ellerbe said the following in an early November ESPN article about Money May's fight next spring:
"We're looking to make the biggest fight possible and everyone knows what that fight is, the little fella."
While it's clear that Mayweather wants to fight Pac-Man, if Pacquiao fights anywhere close to the way he did against Marquez on Saturday night then Mayweather will embarrass him in front of millions of people who badly want this epic fight.
Marquez sustained an early round aggressiveness from Pacquiao then dominated Pac-Man in the middle rounds.
It was clear that the Mexican had the ability to pull off a stunning upset over Pac-Man.
If Mayweather really wanted to fight Pacquiao before the Marquez fight then he must be chomping at the bit to get a shot at him now.
Money May's 42-0-0 record will be put to the test against Pacquiao, it's just a matter of when.
Mayweather might have his own reasons to return to the ring sooner than usual. His controversial knockout of Victor Ortiz was widely discussed, and many fans wanted a rematch.
But the fight everybody wants may be finally coming to reality in the near future.
Mayweather knows he can beat Pacquiao, and after seeing him struggle against Marquez it is clear that Pac-Man is very beatable.
If Marquez was able to overpower Pacquiao and mess up his footwork while putting him into defense mode, then Mayweather would destroy Pacquiao in the early rounds.
Manny Pacquiao is a great fighter, but if he doesn't improve mightily from Saturday night's fight against Juan Manuel Marquez then he should not even step into the ring against Floyd Mayweather because he will be humiliated in the biggest boxing fight in recent memory.
