Pacquiao vs. Marquez: Controversial Decision Makes Fourth Fight Necessary
Manny Pacquiao's controversial win over Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Saturday night makes a fourth fight necessary because you could argue that Marquez was the better fighter for most of the fight.
After Marquez had been the better fighter for much of the bout, Pacquiao won a crucial 12th round to ensure the possibility of at least a draw for himself.
However, Pac-Man was unimpressive for most of the night. Marquez landed a better percentage of his power punches and overall looked like he wanted this fight more.
After three very close fights it would be fair to both fighters, especially Marquez, to set up a fourth fight.
Marquez was able to withstand Pacquiao's early round punches and really showed great composure as the fight progressed. He was really confident coming into this fight and it showed.
The Mexican's drive was heightened in the middle rounds as he won the fifth, sixth and seventh rounds.
A fourth fight is certainly needed to settle this mini-series. Marquez was robbed of a stunning upset in this fight, and it's clear that even at 38 years old he is capable of going the distance with and beating Pacquiao.
Boxing wants a Floyd Mayweather fight with Manny Pacquiao really badly, and hopefully it happens, but if Pac-Man cannot get a clear decision over Marquez then he should not even face Money May.
Mayweather will destroy a Pacquiao that performed like he did against Marquez on Saturday night.
Marquez makes Pacquiao fight for every round and give full effort to land every punch, and not many fighters can do that versus Pac-Man.
The fans in Las Vegas clearly showed their disapproval with the judges' scores which gave Pacquiao the decision, and the only way for them to see who really has the advantage in the matchup between Pacquiao and Marquez is for there to be a fourth and final fight.
Pacquiao wants Mayweather, but Marquez deserves a fair shot at proving he can defeat Pac-Man, because after three fights, Pacquiao has only a slight advantage over the 38-year-old Mexican.
