BCS Rankings Week 12: Stanford & Boise State Losses Will Completely Reshape BCS
Saturday was one of the wildest days in college football this season.
Two of the Top Five teams in the BCS rankings, Stanford and Boise State, were cut down and more than likely out of the national championship game picture.
What happens now?
We are certainly going to see some “fresh” faces jump into the Top Five now that those two stalwarts are gone.
Oregon is without a doubt going to find themselves back near the top, a place they have not been since they were No. 3 in the Week 1 loss to the No. 1 LSU Tigers.
By beating Stanford and beating them big, Oregon has the potential to make a strong case to rematch the Tigers in the BCS National Championship game.
However, they would need the No. 2 Oklahoma State Cowboys to lose, and that’s not looking too likely the way that team is rolling on all cylinders right now.
Oklahoma and Arkansas should continue to move up the rankings thanks to these two stunning losses as well. These teams both have just a single loss and in the “what have you done for me lately” nature of BCS measurements, they are still very much in contention for the national title, if things break their way.
A crazy team that now looks very likely to go BCS bowling is the Houston Cougars. The undefeated Cougs have an easy schedule from here on out up until the Conference USA championship game, most likely against the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles, who are currently rolling over teams and only have one loss.
If both teams win out up until that game and Houston prevails, I see no reason why they would not compete in a prestigious BCS bowl.
Since Boise lost, the Cougs have to be the team from the non-automatic qualifying group to play in a BCS bowl.
It will be interesting to see just how far Stanford and Oregon slip and we will get a much clearer picture of how the postseason will shake out when the Week 12 rankings are released later today
