Pacquiao vs. Marquez Results: Pac-Man's Latest Win Is a Colossal Disappointment

Andrew KulhaNov 12, 2011

If you're a fan of pure tactical boxing, than the 12-round bout between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez was great. But for the rest of us, Pacquiao's victory by decision was nothing short of a disappointment.

All in all, yes it was a good fight.

Both boxers fought with skill, wisdom and determination.

In the end though, it just wasn't enough to satisfy.

For a fighter that is so good, Pacquiao has had his problems with Marquez, and that continued during this bout. The first few rounds weren't anything to write home about, as both fighters were just trying to get a feel for each other.

It was obvious that Pacquiao loosened up in the third round, though, and there is no doubt that his speed and pure tactical skills were far superior.

That being said, one cannot help but respect Marquez.

At 38, the veteran hung in the ring with a fighter that has absolute dominated as of late, and he frustrated him.

Marquez may be a counter-punching expert and a defensive fighter, but there is no denying the fact that he had Pacquiao right where he wanted him for most of the fight.

Yes, Pacquiao was the aggressor and got some good shots in, but every punch that Manny landed had an answer, and it was a better hit more times than not.

Pacquiao was frustrated, and he had good reason to be.

This fight could have easily gone the other way, but the fact that it had to go to a decision was almost an indictment of Pacquiao himself.

Pac-Man needed to knock Marquez out. Not only to rectify the two previous bouts that went to questionable decisions, but to set the table moving on into the future.

Somewhere down the line Floyd Mayweather is waiting, and after watching this fight, I'm sure Money May will have plenty to say.

If Pacquiao knocked out Marquez, it wouldn't be as much of an issue, but there are already some that feel Marquez got screwed out of yet another win.

That's not something Pacquiao needed, and he failed himself and his fans by not taking care of business.

It goes down as another win in Pacquiao's illustrious career, but anybody who actually saw the fight should know that it was far too close.

This bout should have never gone to a decision, and the very fact that it did is a colossal disappointment.
