UFC on FOX Results: Robert Peralta Scores Controversial TKO of Mackens Semerzier
Karma proved to be a pain for Mackens Semerzier at UFC on FOX in Anaheim, where two kicks to the crotch of Robert Peralta came back to bite him by way of an inadvertent headbutt and, as a result, a win by TKO for his Mexican challenger.
Peralta had plenty of "Problems" fending off "Mack Da Menace" from the get-go, as Semerzier, the longtime WEC enigma, looked like the bigger, stronger and, well, better fighter during a first round in which he pushed Peralta around the Octagon seemingly at will. Granted, Semerzier had the benefit of setting Peralta back with a foot to the groin at the outset, but that blow hardly diminished how much of a menace Mack really was in the opening frame.
Peralta came back strong in the second round, finally finding chinks in Semerzier's seemingly impeccable armor to land punches and counterpunches. Semerzier was able to slow Peralta a bit partway through with another kick to the crotch, for which he received a warning from referee John McCarthy. Nonetheless, Peralta emerged with a win in the round and a tie overall on the judges' scorecards heading into the final round.
The third frame began sloppily enough before the two fighters accidentally cracked their heads against one another. Semerzier suffered the worst of the impact, falling backward with a gash near his left eye and a bit of a daze floating about him. Peralta wasted no time pouncing on his woozy opponent, missing with a massive right hand before jumping back on top of Semerzier with a series of powerful punches to put "Mack Da Menace" out of his misery by TKO.
Chances are, the result of this one will get another look or two to determine if there was any foul play involved. For now, though, Peralta can take pride in his ninth win in a row to move up the ranks of the Featherweight Division. As for Semerzier, the window of opportunity as a championship contender seems to have slammed shut on the 31-year-old's fingers. The loss is Mack's fourth in his last five fights and may well push him to the brink of being cut from the ranks of the UFC entirely.
