WEIGH-IN
Manny Pacquiao weighed in at 143 pounds, according to USA Today, and reportedly had little trouble making the weight limit despite the frequent reports of his superior size.
Pacquiao and Marquez drew a crowd of over 4,000 spectators to the weigh-in, cementing the Pac-Man’s status as one of the biggest draws on the planet.
“I like the fans screaming,” Pacquiao said after the weigh-in. “I really need to have my best performance for this fight. I don’t want to disappoint the fans. We’ve trained hard for this fight."
REVENUE
Pacquiao is currently regarded as the top attraction in the sport of boxing, and that is reflected in the revenue share for this bout.
Reports suggest Pacquiao is set to take him over 80 percent of the purse for this contest. Pac-Man’s promoter Bob Arum predicted Pacquiao should make around $52 million for his night’s work, while his opponent Marquez is predicted to earn $10 million.
ANGER
It is very rare that Manny Pacquiao gets angry or emotional ahead of matches, but Marquez has got well and truly under his skin ahead of this fight. It will be interesting to see if it has an impact on his performance tonight.
Pacquiao is bothered by the consistent complaining from Marquez about the result of the last two fights, and is keen to end this chapter of his career tonight.
“This third fight will answer all the doubts and questions,” Pac-Man told the Boston Herald. “I want to end this.”
DISTRACTIONS?
Manny Pacquiao is more than just a boxer nowadays, and many observers wonder if one day that will drag down his elite level of performance.
Ahead of this current fight, Pacquiao has continued his political role in Filipino congress during training camp, and has also been promoting his latest goodwill business venture, according to The Christian Post.
Pac-Man has created the 24/7 Visa prepaid debit card, a venture that is designed to help financially struggling families in America.
“Helping the Filipino community and families is a cause very close to my heart,” Pacquiao told The Christian Post.
Pac-Man continues to maintain that the numerous ventures he is now involved in will not affect his greatness as a boxer.
“I’m handling being a congressman and a boxer," he said. "I’m managing my time and I have time for being a boxer and a congressman.”
FUTURE OPPONENTS
If Pacquiao registers another victory tonight, the speculation about who he fights next will likely begin before Marquez gets back up off the canvas.
Timothy Bradley is an often discussed opponent, and will be in action on the undercard before Pacquiao. Bradley’s opponent Joel Casamayor came in one pound overweight, after being given one hour to burn off the weight Casamayor stripped naked to qualify for the fight.
Bradley is confident he will dispose of his Cuban opponent and will be hoping his recent move to Top Rank will see him matched up with the Pac-Man.
The opponent everybody wants to see Manny fight is Floyd Mayweather Jr., and yet again fans are being teased with the fact that the mega-fight could eventually be signed.
Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya insists that Pacquiao and Mayweather have “never been closer” to a fight, according to Yahoo! Sports.
“I believe if he (Pacquiao) gets past Marquez, Mayweather already has his date set for May 5 and gave orders for the biggest fight out there, it I no secret that fight is Pacquiao,” De La Hoya said in the Yahoo! Sports article. “Now we can say Floyd Mayweather wants to fight Manny Pacquiao, there is no doubt about it. And Pacquiao has given in and agreed to the drug testing so it is looking good.”
That fight would be possibly the most anticipated of all time, but first Pacquiao must take care of business and draw to a close his trilogy with Marquez.
