Florida vs. South Carolina: 5 Halftime Adjustments for the Gators
Will Muschamp and the Florida Gators rolled into Columbia this weekend with bad intentions. A win and they could all but eliminate the Ol' Ball Coach and the Gamecocks from the SEC race. Here's five adjustments Will Muschamp and co. need to make to get the job done.
Make Connor Shaw Use His Arm
Connor Shaw has consistently shown he is more dangerous on than ground than he is through the air. If the Gators are going to come away with a win today, they are going to have to knock Shaw around and make him try and win it through the air.
Stop the Edge Rush
Melvin Ingram, Jadeveon Clowney and the Gamecocks' pass rush have been giving opponents fits all season. With a banged up John Brantley trying to tough it out for the Gators, keeping Clowney and crew out of the backfield is even more important than usual for the Gators.
Get to the Edges
It would be great to see Charlie Weis call some quick screens and draw plays early in the second half to keep pressure off his fragile QB. Chris Rainey and Jeff Demps are at their best players on the edges. Charlie Weis will need to get them there in the second half if the Gators are going to pull the upset.
Short Memory
Florida is 0-4 against ranked opponents this season. South Carolina is currently the 13th-ranked team in the county. You can’t like that math if you are a Gators fan. The Gators are going to need to dig deep and find their big-game faces if they want that streak to end today in Columbia.
Keep the Crowd Quiet
If the Gators can get something going early on offense, they might be able to silence the South Carolina faithful and climb their way back into this game.
