Pacquiao vs. Marquez Odds: Why Pacquiao Shouldn't Be a Huge Favorite

Nicholas GossNov 12, 2011

Manny Pacquiao is a huge Las Vegas favorite in his fight with Juan Manuel Marquez on Saturday night, and despite his success in the two fighter's previous bouts, Pac-Man should not be such a massive favorite.

For one, Pacquiao has not been a dominating force for the entire length of his and Marquez's previous two fights, and Marquez has trained very hard for this third bout and has added a lot of strength.

Marquez will have a ton of confidence in this fight not just because he has become stronger, but because he knows how Pacquiao fights.

He's seen Pac-Man's moves and likely won't see anything new in this bout. There is not an element of surprise heading into this fight.

Marquez is an experienced veteran who knows how to stay in fights where he is not the best boxer. His stamina and endurance will be tested in this fight, but I can't see him getting knocked out before the 10th round.

The Mexican is too good to be knocked down early and has enough strength and defensive ability to punish Pacquiao when he makes mistakes.

Pacquiao will likely win this fight, but he should not be a major favorite.

Having Marquez be such a big underdog is disrespectful to the Mexican and is not fair. Marquez is a talented fighter and has what it takes to pull off a stunning upset of Pacquiao.
