Eagles-Browns: Philadelphia Buries Cleveland in Monday Night Mauling

Is it over?

The 2008 season has been tough to watch, and other than the four wins the Browns have provided their fans with, this likely will go down as one of the worst seasons in Cleveland's history. Monday night vs. the Eagles was yet another night of ugly football for the team by the lakefront, as Cleveland suffered their third straight loss, and fifth loss in six games, getting pounded by the Eagles 30-10.

At least they scored a touchdown, albeit a defensive touchdown that came with the team trailing 30-3 in the fourth quarter. The Eagles backup QB Kevin Kolb threw a pick to Brandon McDonald, who returned it for a score, and for some reason he decided to do a Reggie Bush like somersault into the end zone even though his team was down 27. Yes, it’s been that type of season.

The game was tough to watch for the Browns' fans, players, and coaches, as the team was only able to put up 196 yards, 11 first downs, and they allowed 418 yards to an Eagles team looking to fly into the playoffs. The now 4-10 Browns allowed the Eagles to jump out to a 10-3 lead after the first quarter with a Donovan McNabb to Kevin Curtis 14-yard score, and then a David Akers field goal.

The game got worse as Browns starter Ken Dorsey threw a bad interception that the Eagles' CB Asante Samuel took back 50 yards for a score with 4:45 left in the first half to make it 17-3. The Browns avoided making it worse as Brandon McDonald and Sean Jones each had end zone interceptions that saved the team from being down even worse.

Akers kicked a 34-yard field goal to make it 20-3 with 3:34 left in the third quarter. He then had another at the 14:52 mark of the fourth to make it 23-3. The Eagles added insult to injury as McNabb drove the team down the field for a final score, hitting a wide open Greg Lewis from 10 yards out to finish off their scoring at 30-3.

McDonald then got the Browns' first TD in 15 quarters. It came on the first series after Kolb replaced McNabb. The Eagles starting QB was sharp, going 26-of-35 for 290 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. The awful Browns offense was led by Dorsey, who was 11-of-28 for 156 yards. He was picked off twice. Braylon Edwards had five catches for 102 yards.

Now at 4-10, the Browns have just one more chance for a win in 2008, and it will come this Sunday in their home finale vs. the 2-11-1 Cincinnati Bengals. The Eagles (8-5-1), still believing they have a good shot to make the playoffs, will travel to Washington to play the Redskins on Sunday.
