Penn State Vigil Video: Watch LaVar Arrington Speak at Penn State

Donald WoodNov 12, 2011

Penn State University has been destroyed by controversy over the last week, but the student body is remaining strong.

With the help of some friends.

The student body and participating school officials started a candlelight vigil in support of the children whose innocence was stolen by alleged rapist Jerry Sandusky. Many Penn State alumni have shown their support for the school, and one of the biggest proponents during this whole controversy has been former linebacker LaVar Arrington.

Arrington came to the PSU campus to support the school during its troubled times and decided to get up in front of the crowd during the candlelight vigil and speak about the school and where it’s going.

The student body had been too wild in how it handled the news of long-time head coach Joe Paterno being fired, but this was their way of saying that things had calmed down.

After Arrington spoke to the crowd, they began to sing their school song in unison, and it brought an odd realization to this process that these were just kids themselves.

Once the Alma Mater was sung, the crowd broke into the famous "We are Penn State" chants that have come to be synonymous with the program over the years.

While Joe Paterno was everything that Penn State wanted to embody, there is no one man bigger than the actual program.

Paterno included.
